So i have been gone from the game for some time now. Just came back a few days ago.
Was looking at weapons for BLU and found the Almace. The requirements for this thing are just outright unreasonable.
Are they all like this? I'm remembering why i never went anywhere near TOTM when i last played.

Almace actually isn't as hard to get as it first looks. But to answer your question, yes and no. All the second-tier weapons that are really good come from trials of the magian as well, but most of them are significantly easier to get than Almace. Failing that, there are some decent weapons that can be bought off AH (Galenus), Dominion Credits (Firmament), or drops off of NMs (Sanus Ensis).
The absolute best weapons will always be the hardest to get.
Take a look here (http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Sword_Trials). If Almace is unreasonable for you to obtain I recommend getting the Strength Shikargar swords, those are really good.

If you really hate the Trials of the Magians, if you hate Trials of Magians like a cat hates a Roomba, what I'd recommend over the short term is just picking up two Apaisantes and waiting a week to see if anything in Seekers of Adoulin is as decent as a STR Shikigar.

Only if you see things out of context.

Well, if you don't have a significant chunk of time to allocate for pop NM camping (or think it's incredibly boring) then yes it is unreasonable.

Empyreans are easy to get for the people who have been playing this game for a long while but for people who just came back or are new to the game it probably looks really intimidating.
But even ignoring that, it still takes a good like...~20 hours of playtime to actually get an Empyrean 85 done with 2 peeps (Varies depending on which weapon and competition I suppose)? In XI terms that's not a lot, but when you think of it in the context of "that's about a third of the time it takes to 100% a single-player RPG", it is quite a bit of time for a single weapon, heh.

Almace is an Empyrean, it's a rough equivelant of taking on a Relic weapon from Dynamis, although attainable in a much, much shorter timeframe if you have the resources available to farm efficiently.

For a player just coming back from hiatus needing to do final level cap and likely in need of AF3 upgrades, it could seem a tad unreasonable. I'd use the term monotonous to describe the activity, personally.

It just seems outright insane to me. Look at some of these examples for it.
Having to kill the same NM 50-75 times
Collect 1500 -3000 of an item
Even for those that play constantly i dont see where they get the time or just give up out of boredom.

Bria Helms and Sobek Skins are really not so bad when you start farming them, it may be a little boring at times but in reality its about 10 hours of work total for each of the NMs, which is not all that bad seeing as if you were to do something like Excalibur it would take months of Dyna farming.

you would have to be extremely unlucky to have to kill any of those nms the full 50/75 times they can drop 2 items and if you have at least th2 its like a 60 70% chance to happen

When exactly did you play this game... I mean before Abyssea collecting gear was far worse. The only exception was AF (most anyway) and Assault gear from points. Killing a monster you can spawn with 100% guarantee even if it's 50-75 times because you defied the odds is much better than what existed at 75.

Honestly this really depends if you have friends to proc red for you. Building the KI pop sets is by far the most annoying part of the whole thing. If you can't reliably proc red then Guku is going to be a nightmare, 10m minimum respawn means 4~6 pops per hour at best and assuming no competition. You really need to be procing red on him to be able to get those 50 skins in any reasonable amount of time. Same with apadamek though you need a ton of crour for brew spamming, especially now that you can't lock them anymore. One brew per three pops if you have friends to pop them simultaneously.
Almace is unreasonable to get if you are solo. But these days everyone seems to dual box a whm.

This.
As someone who's lacking in in game friends to do this stuff with (until I started meeting monks/pups working verethragna) the whole empyrean weapon/af3 system was daunting and frustrating. Now that I beat Shin, I can burn some of my 2+ million cruor to brew some of these guys, but point still stands that there's a heap of farming to do, and its hard to find people who don't also want to do it only because they need the same items you do -- and most aren't willing to split the pot with you.

luckily for those who have a hard time procing red on guka, his KI is also available in boxes. sometimes cleaving KI can go faster (sometimes not its still luck going that route)
But really trying to have all red procs and having friends who can hold KIs for you makes the whole process faster. (NOTE: my NIN can do all but freezebite regarding red procs)

It's actually much easier then you think once you learn Abyssea. I am duo boxing mine so far only need about 40 more skins.

Most people stop at the 85-90 version of the weapon.

Frankly, I built up several Elemental Shikargars (STR, VIT, MND, MAcc, INT) for BLU, RDM, and PLD and called it a day. Empyreans are great but until SMN gets one worth pursuing, Elemental trial weapons are good enough for me.

People who are just coming back do not have LS friends willing to help them with huge undertakings, and yes, doing runs for drops you need from NMs can be considered huge if you're the only one getting benefits and the LS has other stuff going on.
"Little help" would mean solo with the occasional WHM stopping by to cure you, any consistent amount of help (even if its just one person who can help you more often than not) is considerably more help that I and most other people who only just recently got back can muster at the drop of a hat. Finding good LSs is a lot harder these days.

People who are just coming back should set reasonable goals for themselves and move on to things like empyrean weapons when they have the supporting gear and friends/linkshell/mules/mercs.

i dunno bout other servers but often times people will do shouts for people to hold KIs and get +2 items and whatnots, so even if you lack friends right away there are methods. even tho you do have to deal on random potential idiots sometimes. Are there not constant shouts for LSes on you guys's servers? mine there is always shouts for recruiting. and not always just endgame LSes.

@Horadrim,Sorry didn't make myself to clear there, and was by no means trying to say it was easy,i had to for the most part solo an assbag full of content, for gear, even most of my job's i went solo ( abby FTW ) So yes it is going to be time consuming,in the end i think it was worth it IMO. All said wish you luck and all,and i'm sure you well find an LS that is willing to help /comfort ;).

What Trumpy said also....Once you gear up proper you will see that what seems hard ATM is easy once you get some lvl's skills, and whatnot done, just got to deal with the grind of some things, but in all not to bad, again imo.

That's not WoE although you do go through WoE to get there. It's the culmination of Voidwatch (3 nations and Jeuno).
