Any official word on weather or not this is going to be released on Steam? I don't want to buy the direct download if its not going to be on Steam. It amazes me that you would release the ultimate abyssea collection on Steam and even new SE offline games, but not a future expansion of FFXI? Every MMO I know of would advertise thier game and try to atleast market it to all markets available, has FFXIV failure made SE afraid to even market Final Fantasy XI as a Cass 1 game title anymore.
I see on steam alot of new releases on offline SQUARE ENIX game titles like the new TOMB RAIDER see more marketing money from Square Enix then thier top MMORPG FFXI has, how serious is SE even taking FFXI anymore, are they just going to let it die a marketing death or what? This is only going to drive customers to other future MMORPG games that are looking far better like Elder Scrolls ect. when they start competing in the near future.
If SE doesnt even take thier top money making MMO FFXI as serious as the new SE releases of offline games like the new Tomb Raider, then wheres the future of FFXI headed?
Canceled options! Next game!

Did you see the number of players on Steam in the lower right hand corner? 3 million.. Imagine if an SoA ad was where the Tomb Radier ad was, we would pick up alot new players generated just off the ad. Is the new Tomb Raider more important then FFXI? Aparently so.

No one cares about Final Fantasy XI other than its loyal playerbase. The expansion was made for us. Obviously they're going to spend more money and effort advertising their brand new AAA title as opposed to an expansion for a 10 year old MMO that has been bleeding users. You're not going to be able to attract vast quantities of players to a game which is dated looking, non-newbie friendly, and actually quite awkwardly designed in a number of key areas.
FF11 is a great game, but it is dying. Be thankful that the XI team sees enough life in it to give us a full expansion. It'll be the last one.

If I had the patience I would go dig up the post from a few months ago in which we were told they are still wanting to expand the playerbase for this game and keep it going. If that is actually the case they have no reason not to do this.

Guys, on Steam, does POL still handle the updates and what not? If so then getting the PC digital Download should do it for you. Granted it should be available on Steam, since FFXI is offered on it.

Adoulin will be coming out on Steam, just a matter of when.

Steam just simply acts as an installer for the POL/FFXI content provided upon its release. Everything else from there on is done through POL, and you can even load up POL without needing Steam operating.

Gamestop (http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/final-fantasy-xi-ultimate-collection-seekers-edition/107615) seems to be selling the Steam version, but only the full collection is coming up atm. Strange too...the only expansion they are selling is for XB360. Seems kind of odd. Perhaps selection will change after the release date.

This is the only official word that was released on the Steam Version
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/30093-Seekers-of-Adoulin-Pre-Order-(EU)/page11
Hi Afin,
We are working to get this distributed on a number of sites including Steam and our Square Enix EU online store.
The pre-order pages not up yet but they are on the way.
Also as madlavitz pointed out, amazon.co.uk are taking pre-orders for Xbox 360!
Also, for steam players you cant just go out and buy a PC version and itll work. If it was treated like an addon and updated through the Playonline updater, it would be all fine, but its not. The expansion software has to be added to the base software of FFXI, which is why its in hard copy form and other companies like digital river, and UK sites are selling them, and the main reason of Conflict with Steam coding. If you were to take the download and try to add it to the Steam Base software unoffially, the security features in Steam would not see the data the same way as if it was just updated like an Add-on would be.
Another reason not to just buy the PC version, if I went out bought a copy of SoA in the store, I would not be able to use Steam to install it onto my computer every time I wanted to. It would have to run outside of Steam and defeats the whole post all together. The fact is I have all my games on Steam and do not want to have to go running around the web to download games everytime I do fresh installs or want to install it on a laptop ect. I have a backup version of steam FFXI on a usb drive to save all that downloading time also, or it would take all day to download from other sites.
Bottom line is if buy it outside of steam and im then going to have to buy it again when its released on Steam, seems like a pretty big waste of money. I dont see why they couldnt have worked to get this on Steam before release like every other game out there.
I would like to see where you saw it as a play online update, because I been trying to get the offical on that, and have only that they are using other companies to add the software to your current install, which would screw up the steam install. ACTUALLY RAIST POST JUST PROVES IT, you'll need the STEAM CLIENT required to install and play.

You know RAIST, it is kinda screwed up that GameStop would be selling STEAM SoA version, when the STEAM website has absolutly nothing for SoA under the Coming soon section, and SE has not announced anything about its offical release yet, or even from the mouth of a rep yet.
At the very least, wouldnt the company thats suppose to host the game (STEAM) and the company releasing that game (Square Enix) have it in its coming soon section or at the veryleast some offical word on its release on STEAM, before some GIANT game company like GAMESTOP starts selling STEAM copies of it?
This is some failed marketing at its finest!!!! What is going on??!?!?!?!
PS. THANK YOU FOR THIS RAIST AND YES, YOU WERE FIRST TO FIND IT. LOL
