last year it was announced that we would be getting new job abilites and new avatars cait sith and atomos, we still dont have these and a fait amount of time has passed since then before they announced a whole new expansion which is near the release... so where the hell are the little things that we've been waiting for for so long??

That update has Cait Sith Syndrome, the Syndrome named after it that many smaller weaker updates have succumb to in the past, such as the Storage update, or the DRK Fast Cast update. It is a shame so many fall victim to this fate, but it seems as though many do, and until the expansion is out it seems as though SE has no intention of searching for the much needed cure.
I assume we will be waiting a few months after SoA is released before they really go back and work on those things, it seems like SE jumped the gun with SoA, and announced it before they should have, so they piled on a lot of work and had to drop a lot of things to focus on it so we could get it on time. In one way, its good they did it, the expansion will do much more for the game than the minor updates, on the other hand, those minor updates are long overdue and are what keep the game going while waiting for an expansion.
The answer is obvious! They all play FFXI and have forgotten their work...and their family...and their life...or something like that.

That's okay, the expansion probably doesn't exist either. :(

I'm hoping they'll work on this stuff while we're all busy with the expansion stuff.

I'm absolutely positive our expansion exists. They need money for FFXIV.
I hope the Elemental Magic update doesn't suffer from C.S.S. (Cait Sith Syndrome).

I hope the Elemental Magic update doesn't suffer from C.S.S. (Cait Sith Syndrome).Agreed, that shows much promise for BLM, RDM, SCH, and even DRK!

You're new to Summoner I take it? Well let me welcome you!
Be prepared for delay after delay and as your hope slowly builds it will be crushed time and time again. Eventually you wont even get your hopes up anymore, but not to worry they will still manage to crush and disappoint you in every way possible!

smn has been my main since launch pretty much but forever has SE made promises of listening to its fanbase and not, leaving me to stay offline until things get fixed which turns out to be years after theyre announced

Major expansions are released slowly over time. If it was released all at once, people would play the game almost 24/7 and complete it all within a matters of weeks, bitch it's too short and easy, and quit playing.

all we ever get lately is delays delays delays, the new avatars and such are a year overdue. it's like they've just become bored of the idea and dropped it without telling us and moved onto a new project. SE is now making many games (such as hitman, tomb raider, FFXIV, FF13-2/3/4/5... etc all the ffxiii games are shit anyway, black ops, deus ex HR, sleeping dog) but cant spare the people or time to give the loyal players on FFXI the updates they've been waiting for!

I've just accepted that everything that needs fixing in the game is left to the side because they can't be bothered to listen or even look at how their own game is running, and consequently stopped playing until some much needed things are fixed. Tbh though, my main being DRG which is almost as bad for updates as SMN, I'm not actually missing the game as much as I thought. It's fun when you get included for things but I always hated being turned down because the whole lolDRG still exists, all due to SE's lack of perspective and their idealogical world where jobs like DRG and SMN don't get updates because they have a use that in reality nobody will ever need. Unfortunately it's another case of a company blinded by money, so they abandon their customers "needs" just to satisfy their own greed.

Because "Loyal players" still play/pay the game despite having nothing interesting to do anymore, so why bother ? :p

Hey Cloudius :-) I'm on Phoenix now with my XIV Linkshell.
You ask the fair, and valid questions, but SE already answered this. They basically said they could do the avatars but the expansion would be delayed a long time...
You have more patience than me, I'm afraid once ARR comes out, I'll be enjoying Summoner on there and I don't really see myself playing XI after that.. I hope they do put it in one day.
I'll always remember our fun, and how great it was being the leader of the Summoner Linkshell.

They should of redone the UI like they said they were working on and implemented the changes they said they were going to before releasing the expansion pack. They just want money and especially now since FFXIV took a hit. SOA will require a lot of time now because I believe it was rushed and won't have much content as previous expansion packs haven't had much content on release day. Yes you get two new jobs but you can LVL them up in a day and probably a few missions. They will have to do patches to fix problems and with the delay of the release you know there will be a lot of problems because they probably had to fix last minute problems. It's a huge problem getting on now as is, SE should just make updates like every other games like FFXIV.

FFXI is like SE's dead project that they're holding up by strings because people will still pay to play it. As long as people pay, SE will drag it along by its strings, giving little care and attention simply because it makes money. The game has so many issues now that it's getting stupid, everything feels so rushed and so lacking in quality that it's almost sad because this game used to be so good.
IMO it's down to FFXIV's failure, but I personally have nothing against FFXIV and will possibly move to that game because that is very clearly where ALL of SE's attention is now, but the lack of money after the first release has meant they need to bleed a source dry to make up for the loss. Unfortunately for us the source they chose was FFXI, but I highly doubt anything good will now come from FFXI, and will keep getting bugs and gameplay issue that will never be fixed. Just look at the update today, so many people trying to get on but all bottlenecked on Playonline (always has been the worst client ever to have been designed, has had way too many issues even from the very beginning), but SE have done nothing, and haven't even addressed the situation except 1 news update saying it's congested. Yes SE thanks, we can see that! This game is pretty much dead from what I can see, in terms of getting updates anyway. The servers are up simply because people still pay, but that doesn't make it "alive".

FFXI is far from dead... Ironically enough, it has grown and evolved more in the past few years than much of its competition.
