I realise that its only 2 weeks until the expansion comes out and the dev team are probably quite busy making the final adjustments to a promosong breath of fresh air for the game..
but...
The english forums have been so void of replies from community reps that it is slowing starting to change some of my excitement to unnerving disquietude. Where is all the hype? The excitement?
JPs got live streams with Mocchi and while I could more or less make out what went on in the second half (while showing the new abilities) I had no idea what was happening while running around town (other than hearing the music).
Matsui-sama also hasnt written anything to us in a while either. Would be nice to get at least something to whet the ferocious appetites of those eagerly awaiting the expansion and all the proposed adjustments coming around it (new 1hrs, new avatars, recycle, storage space issues, etc)

They are busy working on the content of the expansion, I sure hope its not just a starting area with a few quests for more geomagnetic teleport and to unlock jobs and nothing else. If this is all about endgame then they better have part 1 of the endgame activities or several activities and at least 4-6 missions story and not just 2. I sure would rather they focus on delivering top notch quality content that last a good 3-6 months before they usually updating it. Wouldn't want to wait 3 years to finish the entire mission storyline..... That should be done in a matter of 2 years max.

I'm curious if they're going to add a purchase button inside POL like they did with the mini-expansions. I'd rather not have to sign up for a throw-away account on the SE store when I've already got my SE account and POL.

Before the add-ons were all added through the normal update process, part of why it takes so long these days for new or returning players, but expansions are much larger, and have always been installed with disks or downloads from an outside source. So in short, you will have to buy it outside of POL and get it from there, POL will not be used for this, as it is an expansion.

FFXIV beta tests have started not long ago, it takes a lot of resources to get all that EN/DE/FR feedback translated.
My second guess is, with info about GEO and RUN already released, we're supposed to sit and wait patiently for the next three weeks and see everything for ourselves.

FFXIV beta tests have started not long ago, it takes a lot of resources to get all that EN/DE/FR feedback translated. This is an excuse we should not have to deal with, one game should not suffer problems because the company has another game they are working on as well, we should have individual teams to address this if it is the actual problem.

I don't think anyone on the NA teams, much less the COMMUNITY REPS, are spending any sort of time on the expansion.
The fact remains that the JPs are getting tons of hype, including a stream explaining new things, while we have gotten nothing but a silly "No you can't have this feature" in a random suggestion thread.

You can buy the expansion through Amazon or any other 3rd party.

Unless you live outside Japan and the United States, apparently.
The community team is busy with FFXIV relate stuff as well. A recent media tour, Beta feedback etc.
Its more likely that its the other way around. They are the FFXIV community team, which is their first priority atm, and sometimes get to respond to FFXI related issues.
They are taking a lot more feedback into account about the new mmo, rather than FFXI development I suspect. If history is any judge, community feedback doesn't play a large role in things that actually make it into FFXI (which coincides with their lack of presence here).
They seem to have a strict budget and development schedule without a lot of wiggle room for new ideas for features or enhancements. Most of their responses to things are "We realize you would like this, but we can't do it," etc.
Also, the promo video for SoA looked to me like it was slapped together by a middle school student, so I'm guessing the FFXI promo budget is DoA.

This is an excuse we should not have to deal with, one game should not suffer problems because the company has another game they are working on as well, we should have individual teams to address this if it is the actual problem. As I said, this is not even a problem we should be having if it is in fact the problem. Its like if I had two children, one which was 10 and one which is currently in the womb, sure I want my wife to have some prenatal care, I want my new child to come out fine, but I do not simply ignore and abandon my other child. Even once my new child is born, I still pay the bills, send my kid to school, make sure they eat and sleep, and take care of them. I may give more attention to my newborn, but I do not simply forget my other child and give them the bare minimum to survive, I would keep them both healthy and alive, taking care of them both and making sure they are both doing well, no matter their age.
This is how I see FFXI and FFXIV in a way, FFXI is the 10 year old, it was doing ok for a long time, the new baby came up which was FFXIV, SE had a miscarriage, but now they are trying again with another child, FFXIV:ARR, and they are trying to give it all the care they can so that the mistake is not repeated. In the process though, it seems as though they are ignoring the 10 year old, leaving it alone to fend for itself with little care by comparison, and little attention, as though their time with it is over, and they are moving on to the new child. We are simply friends of the kid, who once knew it, but now, feel as though our friend is slipping away because its parents have lost the want to care for it any longer.
This analogy obviously has holes, but I hope my main point gets across, SE should not drop services for one game which is still active and making them money while they go off and pour money into an unfinished game who's predecessor failed horribly. I understand we have not been discarded completely, but our service is worse than it should be, sharing reps with the other game is only one example, but its a big one, it shows just how they are willing to share resources between the two and how one seems to be getting more attention. If they can not divide attention between the two properly, they should not even be trying, instead they should simply have two different rep teams to begin with so the problem never occurs.
What makes this worse is that its not like FFXI is in a stagnant state, like nothing is going on or we are getting mini-updates like with the redone Limbus, Odin, or even Salvage, but instead its the first expansion being released in years! That should be their chance to create a lot of hype, let us know what all they have done, tell us of the awesome things they have in store so we hold out to see what it is, and bring more people back to the game, instead we are getting a lot of silence, which is not what we should be seeing at a time like this.
Problem #1 would be that the same community reps are representing both games then. If terrible MMO publishers can give attention to tons of games with individual staffing, SE can too.
I agree with you, but this is the staffing model they chose.
Its absurd that they are releasing a full-scale expansion in a matter of weeks and it's a ghost town around here. People are still complaining because they can't get access to the pre-order. The promo is weak.
But SE likely doesn't see themselves getting new subscribers with SoA. I would imagine there's a whole other resub market they could be tapping into much more effectively. But seeing as how some genius at SE chose to alienate them on the forums instead of manage that part of the community, It's not clear how they intend to reach them with their current strategy.
Perhaps just an E Blitz and that youtube video a 14 year old made with links to the web site?
But yeah, SE makes bad business decisions. News at 11.

To be honest even with them spread over two games it shouldn't have been an issue. Beta on 14 should of started after the release of seekers then they wouldnt of had to spread themselves thin.

Been awhile since I visited this forum. I would like to comment on this. I play both games, more XIV now than XI and the FFXIV community is no better than the FFXI community when it comes to news and such. The letter from producer live letter V was released almost a month ago and all we recieved was list of "relevant" Q and A's and nothing else. All the letters before that were usually translated within a week or two and officially released but even that was never set in stone. On the ffxiv forums we usually recieve feedback about 1 in every 10 japanese threads. I'v honestly just come to accept that not speaking japanese is like being the red-headed step child of the FF community. It is a japanese game after all, something we must all embrace and accept I suppose.
Luckily though, we have a guy on the FFXIV forums named reinhart that has a thread "translations, JP to EN". Without that I would really feel alienated. Shout out to rein and his subligar!
