View Full Version : Billing Cycle - Unable to Unsubscribe - Free time?

This is a valid question and am curious about some thoughts on it.
It's only been 7 days since SE took the servers offline. From the news in Japan I do not see the servers going back online anytime soon. To be honest, if put in that situation the servers would be the least of my concerns.
With empathy set aside and users who truly care and understand the hardships being faced by our Far Eastern friends we have to wonder how billing will work.
If the server is going to be down for the remaining part of the month ( and from news in Japan it's going to be longer then expected ) are we going to be auto billed at the start of the month for services we are not using?
I thought that I would unsubscribe for now and wait til the servers are up and running again to resub, but I was unable to do so through the Square Enix support number for FFXI.
I can see a lot of users disputing charges if they are billed due to not being able to unsubscribe from a service they are not using.
Just was curious about how this will be handled.

And I'm sure that they will continue it as long as necessary.

kind of sounds like the op found a new game or lost interest in ffxi during the downtime. If either is the case there should still be a way to cancel just like any other service.

April is free and I'm sure if the situation is bad enough that it doesn't run again until sometime in May, then May will most likely be free too. SE knows what they're doing. They know people will complain about this if we're billed for unused service. Relax for this month at least and wait with the rest of us until we hear future updates and hope with the rest of us that Japan will make a great recovery.

You don't need to unsubscribe. You will not be charged. If the service interruption runs into April, then the first month in which we DO have service will be free. As long as we can't access the service, they will not be charging you, so there is no reason to "unsubscribe until the service is restored."

That's basically what happened and with me I know that if I do not cancel now I'm going to forget about it down the road and then I'll notice the charge and ask for a refund and it'll turn into a hassle I'll want to avoid.
Played FFXI for 7 years and this other game I found is kind of fun and it's free :) throw back to when I played Frozen Throne in high school many years ago lol

To each their own :)
Can't really knock someone for finding a game that actually keeps my interest now. It's new to me and I rather enjoy it. There's nothing really left in FFXI that I haven't done or completed.
I had a great LS for 7 years who was driven to accomplish a lot of stuff and so I got to enjoy a lot of end game stuff before it was dumbed down tot he point where I can now solo most anything that used to be exciting to take on as a full alliance or several full alliances doing switch outs.
#1 rule of any game :)
It's always supposed to be fun and challenging

I can totally understand, if you are looking to retire. I've had that happen before with other monthly or quarterly charges. The only thing I would be careful of is how S/E would do the free month(s). If you decide you didn't want to retire and your account were inactive at the start of the month, you may not be awarded the free month.
