I'm bored at work, and have a question regarding ffxi's english translation.

I'm serious by the way.

Is oscar scarf named after the muppet? Like it drops off contaminated coliseum, and he kinda looks like a malboro. It only makes sense.

translation is a bit quirky for sure. consider that coif is not a hat but hair but that is definitely a hat.

Oscar the Grouch? Sesame Street Oscar? If it is, it's a really bad reference. He didn't have a scarf nor did he have a bad breath gag.

Now how bout Fantastic Fraulein Mumor? That was a Sailor Moon reference if I ever saw one.

No, but his bad breath could've been from the fact that he lives in a garbage can and garbage stinks so that might make his bad breath.

Keeping in mind that most of these things in the english version are not even remotely the same in the others.

EDIT: Actually it looks more Card Captor Sakura-y. lol.

Never heard of either. I am a huge fan of the magical girl genre though. I've seen Magic Knights Rayearth (which was kind of subpar at best)...what others have I seen...? I'm sure there's more but I can't list any off the top of my head. I'll check out the two that you listed though.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is now concidered the quintescential magic girl.

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention that they're remaking Sailor Moon and it's slated to start airing this spring! ^^

REMAKING..?!!?!? WHAT!!!!Yes, with claims of staying truer to the manga. The manga is also going to be rereleasing in september.

Can you tell them I'm a Moonie yet or should I should off my complete sets of the colectable card game.
Or simply point out my name. >.>

The NPC that sells Storm and Helix scrolls is named Layton. He also wears full SCH AF. So easy to append "Professor" to his name...

Don't forget in the WotG CS "All your Jeuno are belong to us"

Then in one of the CS for first getting an Abyssea maw, one npc says "And knowing your enemy is half the battle" (and knowing is half the battle...GI-Jooooooe!) >.>;

As for the Oscar scarf, I know in FF6 some of the Morbol enemies were named Oscar.

And I think I remember there being an assault or BCNM called Rondo of Blood and some other thing in the german version that was something like "Operation Van Helsing"

Dunno if you've been answered yet, but yes it is. Malboros used to be named Evil/Mad Oscar after oscar the grouch on sesame street. Their current name means bad breath in latin, Mal bad, Boro, breath.
