View Full Version : A Vana'dielian Hunt (NA)

Greetings fellow adventurers,
Trouble is a brewin' on the wild, wild test (server)! The goobbue, the bat, and the pugil-y are terrorizing the towns in Vana'diel. Who is going to avenge Camate's stolen lunch, Bayohne's hijacked chocobo, Okipuit’s ruined gardening efforts, and Rukkirii's chewed up nomad moogle cap!? The Community Team is calling upon the bravest bounty hunters to aid in solving the riddles that we've been hearin' and taking down these baddies!
How to Participate
On Friday, February 8 at 6PM PST meet us in Lower Jeuno on the test server.
We will be announcing 5 rumors we've been hearin' 'round these parts about who these devious culprits could be and posting up wanted posters in the contest thread. (5 consecutive rounds.)
Each round will start from Lower Jeuno.
Take a linkshell from one of the Community Reps. (Bayohne, Camate, Rukkirii, and Okipuit) You must have a Linkshell in order to participate.
This is a solo endeavor; no forming parties allowed. Brace yourselves for whatever intense situations may arise!
It will be your task to find the notorious monster by solving a puzzle (riddle), and slay it! We want them dead, not alive!
We will be waiting for you at the location last seen with the "bait" (A.K.A. the trigger item). First person to /check the Community Rep at the NM's location will be granted the trigger item.
Only users who are granted the trigger item by a Rep will be recognized as the winner.
First to kill will receive a bounty!
*This event is open to players from North America only. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Prizes
Participation Prize
Athena Orb
5 Rounds - One Winner Each
The winning player for rounds 1 to 5 will be able to choose one of the following trophy statues!
Behemoth Statue
Adamantoise Statue
Fafnir Statue
Happy huntin' and best of luck to all of you! We're looking forward to seeing you on the test server!
Rules
If you win a round, you are not eligible to win a second prize. One prize per winner.
You may join in hunting the NM and providing hints for the other participants however!
If you fail to deal sufficient damage, you will be escorted from the battle.
This will be judged by referee Camate.
The Community Team will be surveying these fights and any misbehavior will be subject to disqualification.
To be eligible to participate and win a prize you must possess a North American account.

Sounds fun but I've won all the statues already from previous Mog Bonanzas. Now, if Nomad Moogle statue was listed as a prize I'm sure more would participate.

All of those statues can be guaranteed from the Bonanza. Would have been nice to see some prizes that are a little harder to obtain. Odin and Nomad Moogle statues? Moogle suits?- I'm sure people would want those more than the Athena Orb.
Both this and double exp are on a weekend I'll be away for. Seems like SE has a copy of my schedule sometimes.

Sounds fun, but the prizes.. really? rank 5 bonanza stuff... I think the rewards could have been a lot better.
Moogle suit, ark weapons, nomad statue.. etc

The point is the fun, the prize is an extra, so I'm not concerned about the prizes.
This sounds like it'll be quite a bit of fun.

I think we should ban beastmasters from participating in the event.

It's worth noting that your instructions for installation are a bit off when it comes to Steam installs of FFXI.
Note: Depending on your setup, the location may vary, but can typically be found here:
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\ - 32-bit version of Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\ - 64-bit version of Windows
For Steam installs the desired target folder would instead be
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\ - 32-bit version of Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\ - 64-bit version of Windows
I hope that this information helps my fellow Steam-using FFXI players, and that you include this information in your guide!
EDIT: I hope you don't mind, but I reposted your installation instructions, with the modified Steam-relevant folder locations, as an announcement on the 'FFXI Ultimate Collection Players' Steam group ( http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamXI#announcements/detail/1730776116847430169 )
If you want me to alter or remove it, please do not hesitate to let me know.

When everyone can pull a lv.99 BST with top-notch gear, why do such a thing?

Thank you for the information, Volkai! We added the Steam install locations to the Test Client Installation Guide (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/25708)!

Can we still participate in a later round of the event if we show up late?

Hurray! I am very glad to see this!
Although, I think when I used the location that you specify here (with \ffxi\SquareEnix\) it created a \ffxi\SquareEnix\SquareEnix\ file path. Is that what it's supposed to do? Or did I do something wrong, and that really is the correct file path instead of just ending it at \ffxi\ ?
If you didn't already do so I'd suggest testing it with a fresh Steam install just to make certain... if you didn't already do so. Although I suppose it might work anyways?

Yes! Reps will be waiting in Lower Jeuno to pass out Linkshells for those who arrive late. You may participate in the next hunt after receiving the Linkshell. :)

We double checked the Steam installation path with a fresh install and confirmed the directory in the guide. This portion of the guide was intended to show where Steam would typically install FFXI-related files on your computer; we didn't mean it as a "you must install in this location"! So don't panic! :D
It's also just a way for users to find where their files are located to better assist with the following steps in the guide. Follow those and you shouldn't have any issues, regardless of where the install is on your PC.

Agreed. Only include EU people next time. Regional events in a global game are stupid.
