So, the scenario is you're re-rolling with a friend, starting fresh.

What job/subjob would you and your friend decide on that would make the ultimate duo combo to be able to do most of what pre-abyssea has to offer? :cool:

So far me and my friend have decided: Ninja + Red Mage, undecided on subjobs.

Now ofc you can level multiple classes and things but say you just wanted to get a "Main" up first then do rest later.

I've no experience in playing after 75 so I don't know what's changed.

Duo SMNs, Duo DRG/mage, Duo NIN/DNC... okay, out of ideas. But these are decent.

Keep in mind that 14 of the jobs are locked when you restart. I generally go with a MNK and a mage, usually a RDM or WHM. Once you get subjobs, use WAR for the MNK, and BLM or WHM for the mage sub. Once you unlock advanced jobs, SCH for the mage, or DNC for the melee, and maybe switch main jobs. BLU should never be the first main job, as learning spells takes time out of leveling and needs mission completion. BST can take care of a lot of things.

The problem with leveling mages now is all the spells you need to buy, and it's harder to get gil for that. Income is limited for people just starting out now, and Abyssea has changed the Auction House's inventory, since Abyssea armor and weapons are EX in most cases. Vendor prices are too high given the amount of gil that quests will give you.

War and whm or rdm.

Mnk as sub for war until unlocking sam and nin

Whatever initially available mage job as sub for whm or blm. Unlock sch at 30.

If you have the patience for spell learning, do blu instead of whm or rdm. This isn't available until lv30, and is gonna require some help to unlock, perhaps.

So this is how it would go down

mnk 18 -> war 30 -> sam45 -> nin45 -> war 90

If you go for blu as the mage:

rdm18 -> whm30 -> nin45 -> blu90
I'm no blu (though I would like to be one day), so maybe you'd want to get whm45 or rdm45 as well, but I don't know.

If you feel like it, you could go for subjob level 49 right away, but that's up to you.

-edit-
Actually, I think i would have done drg instead of war now that I think about it.

So mnk18 war30 sam45 drg90.
If you plan on solo/duoing without someone else main healing, also consider rdm or whm to 45, in order to trigger healing breaths.

War might however make you more attractive in party situations endgame than drg. I don't really know.

Ooo some interesting replies with answers I did not expect!

Spells do seem like they're going to be tough to get, looks like I'm going to have to go old-OLD school in obtaining them haha. Hopefully SE impliment something or a cheap vender to obtain these for new players :(

I noticed MNK pretty popular choice, BLU and DRG good at high levels to duo with? Also how has SCH changed, I never got chance to play it and only know from what people told me how it was @ 75, has it taken over RDM?

Are you taking these up as main or switching @ 30?

I'd say go whm/blm and then war/mnk,nin,dnc w/e is clever for you. Mnk for main tank is good in aby area's but outside isnt so good cuz they cant take damage well with out alot of HP which you dont have at lower level's.

mebbe do rdm/war, whm/blk. at 30, switch to bst/dnc and bst/whm (or even that rdm from before). with two bst mains, you have 4 dd's in your party, healing/buffs/debuffs, and some great hate management. when you two do the adventuring fellow quest, bring that party up to six for the cost of two :p you can also easily lvl your sub by just flipping /bst. /bst is usually even faster and meaner than as a main.

Ooo some very good ideas, we considered the DUO BST but my friend didnt like BST :(

I see a lot of WHM supporters, this a really good class now? I figured I'd see more RDM over this as RDM can do some decent damage and also cure and keep good mann but mainly they can Paralyze/Slow and Debuff etc, can WHM just do this as easily? I know they can now refresh/convert with cap increase just didnt think they'd be a popular choice.
