I think I speak for everyone when I say how happy we are that our new year of 2013 is starting out with nerf, after nerf, after nerf.....
Please, just stop. Stop adjusting things that are very minor and don't need adjusting.
Aka-Twilight scythe!
Aka-Defense adjustment nerf!
Aka-No Dark Knight Adjustments to Magic! (Edited from Nerf, falls in with Defense adjustment)
Aka-Not correctly adjusting Drk sub for 1 handed weapon users.
Aka-no updates to ANY Ignores Defense weapons.
We want updates that will help better the game, not break down minor things that shouldn't be even worth adjusting. I feel personally my money is being wasted now, these updates are only making my play experience terrible. Although I can't say everyone is unhappy with these waves of nerfs and adjustments, I just feel the Dev team needs to look more closely at what really matters.
(Edit-Adjusted Merit Weaponskill, no longer on the list. Not really something to complain about)

They aren't even nerfing merit weaponskills, and where are they nerfing DRK...?

Aka-Twilight scythe!
Ok, fair enough.
Aka-Defense adjustment nerf!
I wouldn't call making defense actually matter a "nerf". What sense does it make for players to ride Berserk and Last Resort timers with impunity? Defense having an impact on a fight will add an extra layer of strategy that has be lacking.
Aka-Dark Knight nerf! (yay my only job for years)
What nerf is that? The only direct adjustment to DRK that has been talked about that I know of is the Desperate Blows/Last Resort adjustments but that won't change anything for DRK so what do you mean?
Aka-Not correctly adjusting Drk sub for 1 handed weapon users.
Yeah, I think you're right.
Aka-no updates to ANY Ignores Defense weapons.
If I were in SE shoes, I'd probably do the same. I'm convinced they have no idea what's going to truly happen when the defense adjustments conclude. What would be the point of wasting time adjusting these WS then having to adjust them again a couple months down the line. It's my thinking that they need to see the performance of these WS post adjustment to make final judgement calls.
Aka-Nerf to Merit Weaponskills!
That's not a nerf. That's a buff, if anything. Honestly, I think it's a good compromise. 1/5 post adjustment equalling 3.5-4~/5 pre adjustment is great. We'll gain the freedom to have more of them for our occasionally used jobs but we can also specialize on the jobs we play the most.

the DRK nerf I believe he refers to is the lack of any work on Dark Celerity or whatever the hell the Dark Knight Fast cast they mentioned was to be called. Also their recent claim that we were Borderline overpowered... then there is the twilight Scythe change, which my ls joked Had it been a Twilight GK it would probably have been "working as intended"

What is this change to Twilight Scythe people keep talking about?

Twilight scythe being changed really isn't a massive nerf, it does very litle dmg compared to most drk weapons these days and the only use for it is salvage where it's really not needed to win, you can do it other ways but it makes things slightly easier because it can damage when others can't. The other issues aren't nerfs and there are no other nerfs to DRK, just adjustments to allow /drk to be a possibility.

It's not really a nerf if it never existed to begin with. Regardless, DRK is sufficiently powerful already. If you want more, they're inevitably going to take something away at the same time. Not sure how much faster casting absorb spells would be worth it tbh.
The other things on the list I agree with though, for instance the twilight thing is just completely stupid. Even considering it was bad enough... actually going through with nerfing a utility weapon that sees very little use as it is is one of the most puzzling decisions I've seen SE make in a while.

Well I'm not attached to DRK enough to care but I agree with the OP sentiment. Personally, I never care for potency and activities that I enjoyed for years being wiped out for any reason. But if they feel they have to, or can't come up with a more appealing solution, what bothers me most is that's really all that's happened as far as changes lately.
For example, the director's claim when discussing the Embrava nerf was that he wanted to give SCH something else to contribute with in its place. I would be much less bitter about losing Embrava if there were even one advancement to go along with it. Granted the full nerf hasn't gone through to every event yet, but all I've seen for a suggested boon is something that might make me want to cast earth spells a little more, and will probably take years to implement.
If SE is trying to keep people in a game that relies entirely on constant progression, they really can't just keep regressing things. It seems like the director is scrambling to fix a bunch of imbalances, forgetting that I'm playing a game to grow my character.

Completely agree with this, the new director has gotten off to such a bad start, nerfs all round, updates from last year pushed waaay back and not a word on them since, and not a single thing to make up for them. they nerf PD, push back cait sith but they haven't given smn a single positive update since T5 nukes on spirits... They nerf embrava but don't give anything new to make up for it, they nerf twilight scythe and haven't offered anything to make drk more useful in other aspects, they make defence more important and remove level correction for mobs making berserk and last resort more dangerous to use, but no damage increase in return for this added danger. All they are doing is killing our jobs and not giving anything new and fun to keep us interested to make up for it.

Aka-No Dark Knight Adjustments to Magic! Uhm, last I checked, the magic changes are either a buff or irrelevant for DRK, depending on whether you care if magic is useful or not. IMHO the job has magic already, it may as well not be useless.

This is why I don't like MMOs and will probably never pick up another one unless it's fun as hell.

It seems like the director is scrambling to fix a bunch of imbalances, forgetting that I'm playing a game to grow my character. If there actually are imbalances in the game, they'd be doing the players a disservice by ignoring them. The problem here is that the things they're trying to fix aren't actually imbalances. Thus, they're wasting development time on something that doesn't need to be done and diverting it from more valuable changes.
This is why I don't like MMOs and will probably never pick up another one unless it's fun as hell. This isn't an MMO specific issue. You really shouldn't be playing any particular game unless "it's fun as hell." Lots of MMOs can be fun as hell, particularly played in the right spirit. FFXI is simply a very old game and as time goes on, they need to do more to keep people interested.

Like I said in my previous paragraph, it's not fixing imbalances that I mind. It's when a large list of nerfs becomes the exclusive focus, bordering on hysteria. It's not very inspirational or exciting when those fixes will have a dramatic impact on speed and enjoyment levels for me with nothing to look forward to in their place.

The defense adjustments aren't really nerfs. You'll actually take less damage on really high level NM's, a lot less damage. Monsters are getting a +0.05 ratio bonus for every level above us they are. Some of these NM are level 120, that's +1.05 or anywhere from double to triple damage. The adjustments they were talking about is changing the upper cap from 2.0 to 3.0 on their attack to our defense. This would roughly equal out on T's and be less damage on VT or higher. MNK is the only one who really has to worry.

I 100% agree, they need to focus on real problems, like furfulling the promises that they made 2 or 3 years ago (cait sith/ToAU king pops/fix things other than character imbalances/ect.) so <3 u dude :D

Sadly except for all the other 99 Jobs I have >.>
What I complain about is real. Don't sit there and pretend the game is just as fine as can be. Stop being so ignorant. The outcry of the playerbase is REAL. But no, want a list of things that piss me off about Dark? Sure, here you go!
1.) No update to Redemption, (by extension, camlann's torment) The damage sucks, the number of these weapons built proves that, but SE says nope, all good.
2.) Our Magic has sucked, and has for awhile. Its not about pumping out crazy damage nukes, that's not Dark's role. We should have more utility spells for survival or at least one decent nuke, similar to holy. I don't know...maybe call it, darkness!? Whoa I'm a damn genius!
3.) Resolution. Before this, dark was fairly balanced in damage options. Now, because of this weaponskill dark is suddenly the most op thing out there? But yet, everyone forgot about Tachi Shoa, still way op for Sam. It needs nerfed, I agree, for a merit weaponskill it is way to strong. My Quietus does about 2.5k-3k INSIDE ABY. Non Relic/Emp Gs, 8k-9k with same atma setup.
These are just some of the complaints only for dark. The list goes on and on for other jobs like Red Mage, etc.
Want a honest answer here folks. This game is fucking broken. Short and sweet. I have had it with the way the development team handles this game. Yoshi does an amazing job with feedback, and can still produce fun content without the need of dumb nerfs. To all the people out there that still think Aby ruined this game??? You high??? The game was long dying before the revamp to endgame came along thanks to Yoshi.
Tired of people trying to defend this game when they know just how bad a state its in right now. Like I said before, I'm done. I quit the game recently, after seeing this game no longer has hope. Sure, I'm raging hard. But heed my words SE, and listen well.
THE MORE YOU IGNORE YOUR COMMUNITY, THE FASTER THIS GAME WILL DIE.
See you all on ARR!
