I'd like to know the opinion Mr. Matsui and the Dev team have concerning this little request of mine.
FFXI is a game where the majority of information is not directly conveyed to the player.
Most of the time players just do not have access to detailed information and do not know how a certain thing really works.
Some other time players have access to limited or really generic information. Take for instance the reputation, or the level of mobs. You are not told the exact level of your reputation, but a generic sentence that corresponds to a certain range, same for the mobs level when you use the command "Check".
Throughout the years players managed to learn how certain mechanics of the game really work trough trial and error, and sites like the japanese Studiogobli and several Wikis really helped us all, also thanks to the work of certain particularly distinguishable individuals.
Patch notes are also very generic, most of the times they mention something has been changed, but they do not tell you how. Some other times they don't even tell you that's something has been changed.
Premise over.
Sometimes in patches and more times in forums, we received very detailed information from the dev team, two examples that come to mind are the adjustments to Victory Smite and Ukko's Fury, there are several more. Also the Treasure Hunter test is another good example.
I understand that:
Certain things cannot be revealed in detail because otherwise players could exploit them
There are many players who like this "hide & seek" thing that has been going on in FFXI. To be honest I don't dislike it myself, up to a certain degree
In light of this, can we ask for some sort of compromise?
For example there could be an official thread started by community Devs which gets opened every month, and in this thread a topic is selected by devs each month, and detailed information about that topic gets revealed to the public.
This way this thing wouldn't happen too often, Devs would be able to keep the "hide & seek" part of this game, and at the same time they would be able to select which things can be disclosed and which should remain hidden.
Opinions?
