Something that has bothered me for a while now is when you are fishing (especially legendary fish), and the game states "Your line breaks." I'm not refering here to the sheer frustration felt from losing a potential catch (that really angers me too lol), but instead to the use of the work breaks.

Is it not more grammatical (semantically correct) to say "Your line snapped"? I mean.. when I talk to people about fishing, I never hear them talk about a broken line.. rather they say snapped line

Being Australian, I am aware what is "localised" for American English doesnt always match up with other spelling/grammar conventions (such as British, Australian etc). I am just wondering if Americans really refer to a line being "broken" rather than "snapped"... or is this a mis-translation that hasnt been addressed?

It's always fun/interesting to discuss differences between American and British English (and Australian English, which is much closer to British than American)

Saying the line snapped is more common in the US too (at least in the north-east), but saying the line broke is also acceptable. It's not really a translation error, just a preference thing.

Here in the pacific NW, we say break.

Hmm.. localisation team must be from NW then lol. Australians would not likely ever say their line broke :p
