If I order the FFXI Collection off of Steam, is it a one-time use kind of thing? Or would I have access to the installation files on a more permanent basis. Like if I needed to reformat the drive or something, would I have to pay to download it from Steam a second time?
I've honestly purchased this game multiple times now because I always seem to lose my installation discs. I was sort of hoping that if I got it from Steam, I'd have access to the installation files anytime I wanted them.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I would imagine you could download it as many times as you want as long as you remained under the same account you orginially purchased it under. Might be a better question for the Steam forums though! :)

If you access your Steam account I think you can download it any time you want. And just FYI if you do be careful. Starting to download the steam version with FFXI already installed will mess up your current installation. So don't do it until you're prepared.

If you log into your STEAM account on another system you can then download the game onto that system. I'm don't know how STEAM allows you to access the game though. You may have to be logged into STEAM, to access your STEAM copy of FFXI. What I'm gettig at is I'm don't know the specifics of someone else playing after you install without being logged into your STEAM account.
Ah, redundant sentances. ^^

Here's a question, how the Hell do you get steam to track your time in FFXI? It says I've only logged 15 minutes but that's obviously not true.

I took a quick look at the Steam forums, not a lot of information, but apparently you can use Steam to download/install, and when you're done, you no longer need to go thru Steam to access the game. No word as to whether you can download the game multiple times.
I'm not really familiar with the Steam software, am I going to regret downloading it? lol

I upgraded to a new PC last Sept. My old PC had the game downloaded from Steam on it. I had no problems doing a new download for my new PC.

Yes, Steam will show the game in your library, you can download and install it from there as many times as you like. And yes, it will "mess up" any previous installation, meaning you won't be able to run it from the old location, however the Steam version will still work flawlessly. Steam is a great gaming platform, I wish SE would use it for XIV as well.

It's the time you're in the playonline viewer, which is what steam is actually launching.
ANd to answer the OP: You can install your games from any computer you want as many times as you want. The games are tied to your Steam account, not the computer you install them on.

I got it on STEAM actually, yeah you can take it to any computer you have it on.
Only problem is you'll be stuck with the default config settings, no matter how many times you change them.
You can change it by going into your harddrive/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/common/ffxi/Square Enix/FINAL FANTASY XI/ToolsEU [or US]/FINAL FANTASY XI Config.exe
Using that config will change it though. STEAM needs to look into that bug
