For a brand new player the cost of "The Ultimate Collection" which includes all of the following: Final Fantasy XI, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Wings of the Goddess, A Crystalline Prophecy, A Moogle Kupo D'Etat, and A Shantotto Ascension is a grand total of $9.99 plus tax. However, for those of us who have been playing since the game's inception have paid for each expansion as they came out, I cannot remember exactly how much they were but I'll assume $10-$20 per game making a minimum of $40 for just the boxed versions of the game. On top of that the devoted players are charged $10 per Add-on scenario; A Crystalline Prophecy, A moogle Kupo D'Etat, A Shantotto Ascension, Visions of Abbyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea making a grand total of $60, plus the game and expansion $100 (this doesn't include the ps2 players who paid $100 for their first copy of the game with a hard-drive).
So my question is.. Where is the loyalty? Many of us have been devoting our money each month to the game for years, one years worth costs $155.40($12.95*12), yet we are expected to pay $10 per Add-On while new players pay $10 for what we would have to pay at least $70 for.

I am assuming that you're poking fun at Relic Holders complaining about their gear no longer being top-of-the-top.

I assume.

Anyway.

I'm seriously considering holding out on whatevver the next thing will be because of this very thing. I spent $20 on ACP and MKD--only to have them announce the Ultimate Collection (including ACP, MKD, AND ASA) announced PRIOR to the release of ASA--for $10, the same price of ASA. Sooo... those who hadn't gotten it yet could get it all for $10, while I paid $20 for the First two... plus all the costs of the previous expansions. Needless to say, I didn't get ASA.

Then.. Vision, Scars, Heroes all at $10 a pop... and then they announce a promotion where you get Vision with Ultimate Collection for.... $10. That ended, and then they offer Ultimate Collection with up to ASA for... $5.

FIVE @#$@#$@#$ DOLLARS

Well, I finally got ASA at a discount...went to Gamestop, digital Download and got UC for $5 and used the code to unlock ASA.

So... I'm thinking... just wait a while on the next big thing. Unless, perhaps it comes with a rework of the Graphics Engine to make it more truly DirectX compliant (as in, my video card will actually be able to enhance it with things like Anti-Aliasing).

I really do hope they add proper direct x support. A videocard with 1500+ RAM shouldn't have slowdown in tahrogni canyon because they show a big sprite of dust.

Why the new PS2 and a new copy of the game?

I think remember back then when the new PS2 came out for America, they lasted like a year or so, I was the unlucky one that got one that lasted a year or so. Go Sony lol

I Wish SE would do this, Also I would like to see new expansion packs.

The whole point of the Ultimate Collection is to make new players more likely to start FFXI. New people are not going to pick it up if it costs what it effectively cost all of us because that would range into the hundreds.

Add-ons are still a rip-off, though. I don't particularly mind, since Abyssea was short and good, but Wings of the Goddess didn't cost me anywhere near as much as all three Abyssea add-ons and while WotG is now redundant, it did have far more content. The price difference is obvious, there's no reason Abyssea couldn't have simply been an expansion, 10$ for Visions zones, next update Scars zones are introduced, etc. It's only an add-on series because it makes them far more money. I can only imagine the uproar if they had WotG as an add-on series, 10$ per update, the whole redundant expansion would have cost us well over 100$. Depending on how good future content is, I think I'd rather quit than put up with what is quite obviously a massive rip-off.

^ this, I regret buying it at christmas when it was $4 for the set, but even $9 is not a lot, thats the price of a addon lol. And due to that price is the only reason I started up fresh and now playing again. Its hard to find (in uk) the game in stores or anything like that normal price and its that cheap on Steam because its digital download, infinite copies, no shipping, no hassle. (Not just steam tho)

I understand the loyalty but a business cant favor loyalty over new players much, it'd just be unfair and SE would lose out. The amount of people who will just accept it and pay for it is much greater profit than not charging at all.

Plus you've got a character that has 5+ years worth of experience, a new player has to go back and redo all the old stuff and spend time catching up and if anything new comes out he cant do it until hes up to par (tho i think abyssea has ruined that nowz? lol)

I believe you pay to get a head start. But I also think all mini expansions should be free 1 year after their release. Because they don't offer enough to be worth the money after that long.
