Yesterday in Port Jeuno I was walking towards the signet NPC. Near Shami, I saw a Moogle that I could target that I had never seen before. When I got close enough to click him he was gone. There wasn't even a green dot for him on radar. Anybody know what that's about?

I have seen the same moogle in Upper and Lower many times, always a bit outside of the arch, near the AH in lower, always the same location, and depops when you target them. I have no idea why they are there, never asked a GM or pointed it out on the forums as it doesn't hurt anything, though it is a bit weird, any word on this?

It's your moghouse moogle. It's a bug that's been around since forever, actually.

Your moogle occasionally goes out for walks and shopping. If you talk to them while they are wandering the streets, they still can give you access to your locker and safe, since everything is actually in the little bag they're carrying. Moogles are actually infused with the most powerful known time-space magic. (Possibly Vana'Diel once had time mages but they all turn into Moogles after a while). This explains just about everything Moogles can do, including how they get to Mog Houses in different countries and eras without breaking a sweat, how they hold furniture in bags the size of your dagger, and their ability to grow miniature trees inside your house.
Don't get me started on King Kupofried.

Its a well known glitch that happens not only in Jeuno but in other places such as Windurst Waters [s]. The devs explained a long time ago that it has to do with a address issues (i.e. programming errors) and the position the fake moogles appear in is somehow relative to their positioning within the moghouse itself.
Its a harmless bug.. just ignore them.

Seems to appear when you change job, also find him alot in South Sandy (S) after retracing there on BLM and swapping job to <Relevant>, he likes to hover on those occassions about 30ft off the ground, directly accross from what will be a Auction House in 20 years, and slowly mutters a hideous incantation summoning doom upon the elvaan race. (Or his just being a look out for Orc gatherings in Ronfaure).

Well if you look at it that way then they shouldn't just warp back home as soon as you look at(target) them.

Mine doesn't always warp home. I can get stuff out of Mog Safe and such actually.

The last time I actually was able to interact with the moogle it actually didn't let me access the safe or locker, similar to if you went to the "view house" option anywhere outside your mog house.

they should program the moogles to be able to move about the towns. That would be awsome!

Sometimes I can get things, sometimes I can't. My Moogle is moody.

the reason why they warp is because its not really your Moogle, it's someone elses that just happened to go into their MH the same time you selected it, so he had to warp.

You can though, take things out of your delivery box.

one time i got to access it but i had to be quick but he usually disappears as soon as i target. i think the one in (s) sandy used to occasionally show up as carby or fenrir or something from time to time. but that was back in the day when the citys were under constant siege.

From my experiance with working with UDK and other like engines, this is common, but usually the default coordinate point location is nowhere near where players traverse as to avoid this problem with Graphics rendering, especially in a game that has the client side do Z axis.
Every zone by default for select objects, most notably NPCs used/called in cut scenes, are stored at a default point in zone data, say X:0.0 Y:0.0 for example. What your seeing is just the occasional glitch from going/leaving your Mog House where data was still reloading into your memory(job change/zone fast can do this).
The Moogle was and still is in the zone data, it doesn't remove it until targeted, which calls in a whole other operation that determines that the target shouldn't be targeted and should be considered inactive/despawned. That targeting operation i speak of, has had its fair shares of mess ups in the past, dead floating names/avatars, hnms still showing dead bodies/names, etc.
The reason the Moogle is even their is cause he is apart of the zone, as Mog Houses are not separate zones, but a crammed away area/position on the town map you're currently zoned in from. Due to FFXI's coding, server side wise, Z axis coordinates are not shared, making it client side. Automations for a while during besieged use to pop up in peoples Mog Houses as the Mog House in that zone was right smack under the town map. Automations of others would fall through your ceiling into your Mog House during besieges because your Client side handling of the Z axis would try to default/normalize it to the nearest Z-axis collision floor(your mog house). Sorta like two people comparing two game screens, one can be down a steep ledge, and up on top of it on another screen, when the persons really only one or the other, its how your client reads it. The automation glitch only happened with Pets and not players usually, due to pets having the worst pathing code in the history of gaming imo.
In rent a rooms, your furniture is also transparent, but the position, direction, and model data is still buffered into the memory over the rent a rooms data. People with a lot of crap in their house will notice a stutter of FPS when zoning in from this.
Additional info:
Just about every zone has Moogles in it. Usually called in for debugging, but they still call in the default Mog house command. RMT exploited this about 5 years ago or so by client side changing the visibility status and coordinates of the moogles in question. Allowing them to change job on the go/recover HP/MP. SE patched this and any use of a Moogle that calls the Mog House data, outside of a city or town, will flag you for instant GM jail.
Using and talking to one in Town like Jeuno, if your quick enough to beat the targeting flagging it as inactive, won't get you banned or flagged, although most of the functions won't work(Mog Safe/Locker I believe don't work), Delivery Box does tho. I've done this a bunch of times.

Noooooo! Because then he would be beating me up senseless all the time and I have very little sense as it is. :sob:
lol Seriously though, I have a different character for bazaaring items I wish to actually sell that I AFK in. I try not to AFK with my main because of the "gallery" items I have in his bazaar. As an anniversary gift from my husband one year, he created a female tarutaru charactar just so my main character could have an in-game wedding. All the items in that character's bazaar set to max price is related to that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is not everyone one with a maxed priced item is trying to be a troll. Some people do it to share a special moment/memory they have in the game. I wasn't aware that it was even an issue for people until I started participating in the forums here.
Neopets.com had a similiar issue going on with their custom shops a few years ago. People, myself included, would place their collections in their shops as a display gallery. The site's solution to this was to create a specialty shop called gallery. Anything placed in there has no price now, but is available for public viewing seperate from the sellables they might have from their shops.
My thought here in this is maybe SE can provide players a similiar kind of option. Right now we get a brown sack next to our names when we place anything in our bazaar. Would it be difficult to add a new sack icon with a different color for those that have "gallery" items in their bazaar to notify people that are shopping we don't have anything to sell? This will allow shoppers to skip over gallery bazaars and focus on those actually selling something without hindering those that wish to display something for the sake of a precious memory.

The odd thing about my comment there is that I posted it to be funny, unaware that there was an honest issue with the max pricing of items in bazaars. Afterwards I got to thinking about how FFXIAH posts a list of bazaars and what people have in them. I don't know how that information gets there. I have never seen any of my characters' bazaars listed.
However, between my earlier post in this thread regarding galleries and adding a shopping mog that searches bazaars for you I think the problem with the bazaar shopping could be allievated.
I think I should start a seperate thread for that.

People using Guildwork, and people examined by people using Guildwork.

Okay, but not everyone uses Guildwork. I don't think it's bad if people do but if the game has a problem, then SE should be building a solution to that problem within the game. I realize that in the grand scheme of things this might be a minor issue. They shouldn't be leaving the minor issues to 3rd parties to address when they have such a strong stance against 3rd party programs. Either they need to start buying some of the really good 3rd party add-ons and build them into the game or they need to start fixing the issues themselves.
Edit: fixed a typo >.<

Oh I agree, just you said you didn't know how it pops up on AH.com, so I wanted to let ya know. So far as I know, thats also how the DB site works, it collects drop info from the Guildwork app and sends it to them, anything sent from the same mob with the same drops within a few seconds of one another is discounted, as to not count 6 people seeing 1 dead mob as 6 different kills. In the end it creates a much more accurate drop rate database for the players, and its exactly why I'm sure that SE would never do it. The Bazaar thing might though, sorry to rant.

Ranting has its place and purpose though.
So even though I, or anyone else, launches a rant I listen through what the rant is about and if it's just an emotional vent, I let it go but if it's something that could be resolved and it's shared by more than one person then I start to consider possiblities to address it.
Afterall, a rant emerges because a problem of some kind triggered it.

I thought it was funny too. I've got a +1 Galkan Sausage in my Bazaar, it's been there for going on 3 years now. My best buddy ingame cooked it up for my birthday, and it's been in my inventory ever since, collecting mold and bits of hair.
