as you can figure, I've found myself wondering if the max merits for the weapon skill category will be increased when the next expansion hits.

When the merit WS were first released I didn't really think about the limitations, simply because the 3 i choose covered just about all the jobs i would weapon skill on, Requiescat for my RDM, COR and BLU, Extenerator for DNC, RDM, COR, and Last stand for COR..the only jobs I had at the time that didn't get a merit ws was PUP but I have stringing pummel so I didn't really worry, and BST which i really wanted but couldn't justify considering 99% of the time i solo on bst...recently I leveled SAM and found myself in a bit of a dilemma, having no desire to make a masa. (lots of reasons there but that's not important in this) I needed shoha...but that meant dropping one I already had...couldn't drop last stand...and requiescat was way to useful even only as a utility to lose. so i dropped extenerator. but now that Runefencer is most likely a gsword job...I'm once again in a tight spot...because I can't kill any of the merit ws I have without gimping the jobs that use them... and without reso any gsword is kinda gimpy... so here is my question Mr./Ms. rep, what are the odds that we will get to have a 4th (and maybe 5th) merited ws when SoA is released?

oh and before anyone makes commentary about Requescat not being worth anything, go set a build for it and go parse cdc vs req against flans slimes and the like.

This thread x1000

Merit WSs need to be increased to atleast 25 spendable points. (5 full WSs)

Agreed. Limiting the number of WSs we can merit makes no sense.

Really makes no sense to cap merit weapon skills as some form of "specialization" system in a game that shows no other limitations to job choices outside of inventory constraints. Players have been able to level any and all jobs at any point they want, never understood changing that now. Specializing how one plays/gears a certain job and chooses merits within that job is one thing, preventing the option to merit more then 3 jobs WSs is just nonsense. Why stop at 5 WS? Just unlock them all. Even if you consider the 9 potential WSs a war could use all at once (putting aside SE's own stance that they should be masters of many forms of combat), how would that be game breaking?

This topic has been brought up so many times, and so far little has been said on the matter (other than the original statement about specialisation back when they 1st came out, which is stupid).

It has long been a consensus amongst the player base that 5 fully merited ws would be a "sweet spot".. still causing the player to have to choose wisely.. but not be so restricting that it prevents players from being able to level and play certain jobs because they cant give up their current merits.

Jobs like SAM and DRK are expected to have these merited, and if you dont have them merited you are considered gimp and undesirable. Now, if you play jobs like cor, dnc, mnk, bst (non R/E/M) and then want to play SAM and DRK.. you either are going to have to give up last stand/exenterator/shijin spiral/Ruinator.. or just give up the idea of levelling DRK and/or SAM before you even start, and this is hardly a fair situation to be placed in.

would be nice, but kinda doubt it unless they introduced a new weapon type (oh I wish) and therefore new weapon skills.

This Christmas, I want to be able to spend more merits. I support this thread.

ive always heard these things were limited due to balance or whatever, but in the end you can only utilize one weapon types WSes at a time without switching weapons. I dont understand why we cant just have all these merited if we so chose to spend our time on it. and same for meriting combat skills. even if a warrior merited all the combat skills. he would only have the benefit of one (great weapons), two (dual weidling, can already merit two weapons to max anyway)m or 3 if he were to merit a ranged one as well (which he prolly wouldnt even utilize exept to pull maybe) least we can merit alot more combat skills than we used to could.
