I think I'm on the Asura server.

So I started playing a few years ago. I always wanted to be a dragoon and my friend helped me get dragoon and dnc and drk because he said those two quests were easy. So I'm back no wanting to play and I'm as lost as I was back then.

I still have no idea what am doing, how to level, what to buy, where to go, what to do. I'd like to find a linkshell to help me just learn the ropes. Right now I'm stuck in I think Windurst and I want to get to Sandoria because that's where I started.

I have a linkshell but everyones gone so I guess i can just leave it to join a new one.

You should probably just go join a new one.

If you want to go back to your own hometown, you can use repatriation from field manuals. If your homepoint is near sandoria, you can also warp there with a "scroll of instant warp". You can get such scrolls from gate guards, and you can check your current homepoint in the main menu under Status then Profile.

At level 30, have been able to do the chocobo license quest for a while already, so that's something you could do. This quest starts in Jeuno, and upon completing it, you can rent chocobos from anywhere in the world, assuming your level is above 15 in cities, and 20 out in the field. Chocobos will make it a bit easier to get around without getting aggro from monsters.

Other things you can do is start doing some of the missions for your nation. These are like quests, but have a more significant storyline than most quests have. You can also do outpost supply quests to enable teleports to various locations around the world. If your nation controls a region, you can go there with supplies in order to be able to teleport back there anytime for the rest of the game.

As for what to buy, the most important thing to keep up to date is your weapon. Other armor isn't extremely important for the first half of the game. Grab whatever armor pieces with str, dex, accuracy and/or attack on that you can afford, but don't worry about it if you can't afford a lot of such gear. Just prioritize a good polearm/lance for now, if dragoon is the job you want to play. If you want an all right monk weapon for level 30, you can try Claws (http://www.ffxiah.com/item/16411/claws).

You can browse one of the wikis to find information on which weapons each of the jobs are good at. As you might know already, monks are good with hand to hand, dragoons are good with polearms. You can find every other job there too, and look at their "skill caps" ratings. This is an indication of a job's potential with each weapon. A higher rating means you can eventually get better with that weapon than you could become if you used a different weapon.

You can level up either alone, by just wandering around and kill mostly "easy prey" monsters, or you can team up with people in various hotspots. When you think your gear is very good and you feel like you know what you're doing, you can try taking on "decent challenge" monsters. You can check how strong monsters are with the "check" menu selection, or pressing ctrl+c while targeting the monster.

For soloing exp around your level, I think Valkurm Dunes and Buburimu Peninsula would have monsters at about the right strength for you. If you want to team up, you will probably need to seek out areas where players typically gather for fast party exp. Gusgen Mines is one such place, and you will find that place to the east of the huge, white structure in Konschtat Highlands.

Speaking of huge white structures. You will find teleport crystals around those places. Touching the teleport crystal will make it possible for white mages to teleport you to those crystals later, from anywhere in the world, by casting certain teleport spells. You should get these teleport crystals whenever and whereever you see them.

Thanks very much for the advice. I'll go and try to do some of the mission. I have to figure out how to get to Bastok now. I'm certainly going to go and look up some wikis!
