Critical bug, server failure on Dec. 21 2012!
They are waiting until Dec. 21 2012 to see if we need an update or not.

Mog house music change was working outside your home nation.

A Dev went 1/1 on Tanaka Hara-Ate and they had to lower the drop rate.

who knows but its probably a good thing it was caught before the update was pushed.

Square-Enix knows, and it would be great if someone (community team or dev team) could provide some more info aside from "critical bug" and "to be announced." Should we be expecting a day? Week? Some idea of what happened? Any information would be better than none.

Why do the players need more information about a bug that was caught prior to ever being released? It doesn't affect anyone, and will never affect anyone in any way other than the timing of the update. When they have a date, they'll give you one. Patience, young padawan.

Given how long it took the Development Bros to fix Meeble Burrows' Malevolent Bug, I wouldn't be so sure about this second part.
My money is on one week, in which time the update will be released with the critical bug still in it and a notice about the presence of said bug. Unless the critical bug could somehow be of benefit to players, then my money is on a two month delay after each Development Bro works high and low to the eliminate the bug for 61 straight days.

I'm pretty sure "FFXI player" and "patient" are synonymous for anyone who's played since before Abyssea. Just seems odd that there hasn't even been an official acknowledgement of the delay on the OF, especially with Matsui's very high visibility over the past week or so.
The bug probably still exists on the test server go on there and try to find it if interested.

that sucks. was kinda waiting on a update and now it maybe changed up to a month or so? this "critical bug" was really that bad? dont they have these tests on the test server?
wait a sec, could it be this 100% red proc broken etc?

The test server hasn't received any of the updates that are coming to the play servers, so I highly doubt the bug is there. The only thing they've been adding to the test server recently is the new SP abilities, which aren't in this update. Only very small aspects of new salvage (and nothing else from this update) were added to the test server. Speaking of which, it probably would have helped if some of this stuff was actually loaded onto the test server so we could actually test it before release. Might have been able to identify the bug way sooner that way.

It's just gone the route that just about every public forum goes. Gotta keep up that passive aggressive, always negative facade so we can appear edgy and cool to strangers on the internet.

They're don't need to tell us, no, just like they don't need to do anything we ask them to do, updates, information, or otherwise. It would be nice if they did though. Even if it was just a "It's a issue we can't inform you about because of the nature of the bug" would be nice. Nobody really likes being left in the dark.

From the little Moogle story they put up in the announcements today on FFXI proper, I'd guess what happened was a big sound bug in the new "jukeboxes" for Mog Houses, to the point of making the QA team's ears collectively bleed- which got fixed up yesterday and now they're rolling it out on the 12th.
