I think it would be totally awesome if SE opened up a brand new server and prohibited people from paid transferring to the server. I think with all the awesome changes SE has implemented over the years (level sync, faster skill ups, fov, increased exp etc...) I think it would be a BLAST for people (those who want to) to go back to the days of eco-warrior and sub job item farming.

I've always wanted to restart, but given the saturated nature of the servers after a decade, it just isn't that much fun. It would be fun to have that 'authentic' FFXI experience again pre-abyssea leaching, combined with all the new awesome changes that have taken place over the course of the ongoing game development.

Thoughts?? I think this would appeal to a lot of people and wouldn't require a lot of work on SE's part.

I don't think it would do well...

pre-abyssea have a boat load of problems also

most notably.. not having access to some higher end fights because you didn't bot hnm's

Would love that. But! I have accomplished too much on my taru for me to even think about redoing ANY of the stuff I have sloughed through the past 7 years again. If my character ever gets lost, I am done.

I think more people are in love with the idea of a fresh start than would actually be willing to give up on their old characters.

Not to mention those who would give up their old characters for a month or 2 just to switch back again.

Plus I've had to restart my characters four times, mostly due to unsatisfactory of character selection. I think I've done Windurst missions 1 to 5 three times on three different characters...

i wish SE "open" a new server where abyssea is restricted to lvl70+ and free transfer players that think aby should be 70+

Honestly, I dont' think you'd get too many people.

i wish SE "open" a new server where abyssea is restricted to lvl70+ and free transfer players that think aby should be 70+And a new server to put all 6% of the PS2 players on.

They'd need to fix all aspects of beginning the game (tutorials, quests, Rank 1 missions, NPC stores and so on) before they even think about something like that. They'd need to revamp everything to make it more approachable to anyone who isn't a veteran already.

Statistics....love em/hate em, they're usually wrong. 6%? That's probably being generous.

This is a great idea I would love to see a leechless world. Free of all forms of leeching not just abyssea 70+ but also take out other cheep tactics like smn burning. Keep everything the same storyline and content wise, then move those of us who are anti-leech to our own server/servers. But let people select which style they want when they would open this hypothetical server, not necessarily loose their character they worked on for years. Solution found. Bravo :)

This would be the 1st thing you went after not necessarily the people who this concept would appeal to.

I believe this would be a fair fix to the issue. I would say it should be allowable that people actually transfer their existing characters in. As for SMN burning, SE really can't fix this issue too easily, however, they could just make it GM'able. Most SMN burns I've ever done or witnessed have taken at least a good 20 minutes to acquire the mobs in the zone and prepare for the astral flow.

Not going to happen. They are merging ervers due to underpopulation, why on earth would they open a new one? It would be detrimental to the FFXI community to have a new server.

This can actually be seen 2 ways the 1st of course is detrimental because most servers would loose at least part of their player base, on the other hand it would stem the flow of people leaving the game for the same reasons that a separate server was suggested in the 1st place. It is a double edged sword.

It would take a lot of reorganization of data on SE part to implement this move if they choose to do so. On the other hand they would not necessarily be using a new server rather reorganizing the existing servers to incorporate this idea to satisfy the 2 types of players that they currently have. Which sadly would mean more server merges but just to swap out players to extend the lifespan of the game instead of downsizing it.
