So I was thinking about FF9 and how Steal works in that game. For the people that have not played FF9, stealing in the game would add to a hidden counter to a job skill called thievery, making it possible to get the damage cap with one hit. I think SE should add something like that into FF11 and link it to a Weapon Skill or Job Ability and each time used, ether takes some amount of points off the counter or resets it all together.

What are your guys thoughts on this?

I think steal should be modified to just steal a bunch of temps as well as items, especially in the case you didn't steal an item at all.

"Mirage stole a stalwart's tonic!"

This should not interfere with aura steal. It should be an addition, not replacement.

Just add a bunch of possible temp items to steal from every mob in the game. The possible stealable temp items could be based on the monster's job.

For example:
Whm mob: Hi-potion, elixir, catholicon, healing mist.
Blm mob: Ascetic's tonic/gambir, Hi-ether, mana mist.
War mob: Stalwart's tonic/gambir, Berserker's tonic.
Thf mob: Champion's drink, spy drink.
Pld mob: Fools tonic/powder, fanatics tonic/powder.
Sam mob: Monarch's drink, daedalus wing.

These are just examples. Mobs could have more items than that, and also other items than I suggested. The potency of the item should probably depend on the level of the mob. You could steal stalwart's tonics from lv 50-80 mobs, and stalwart's gambirs from 80+ mobs, for example.

That could be an idea but I think that would still make steal a bit useless. I was trying to give it more of a use and at the same time give THFs a better way to deal damage.

I don't see how it would be useless have a high chance of getting powerful buffs every 5 minutes, especially when some of those buffs last for 5 minutes too. It would be situational, sure, but there would be many situations where it'd be great.
