so me and my friend andrew got incredibly bored this past weekend and decided to take on a personal "Can you build it in minecraft" challenge..... we decided on sandoria.... Alll of sandoria. weve made some decent progress on south sandy, and once thats finished were going to move onto the other zones. but heres some screenshots of what weve done so far. if anyone has some suggestions or a better texture pack for us to use, please dont hesitate to let us know.
(please keep in mind that mine craft is both limitless in what it can do, while being extremely limited in what you can do)
we started off by building a basic frame of the area with fairly high walls, as we knew we could build down

we finished the chocobo stables area first, but mojang put out an update that fixed the auto correction of some blocks which makes for a much more appealing roofing, so were going to go back and re-do the chocobostables area

we then moved onto the courtyard infront of the auction house (we still havent managed to make tents that dont look horrible so weve decided to leave them out untill we can figure out how to make them look decent.

oh if anyone knows of a free-range camera program or zone model viewer of this game, please let me know. were having to invent spots that we cant see and since were both perfectionists we both really hate doing that.
we plan on doing all of the sandy zone, the palace, both ronfares, and bostenaux obulette or however its spelled. going to put in some redstone music boxes to get some 8 bit music replicas of each zone. (probably going to have to find some way to hide them in the blank spaces in the castle walls lol)

Real nerds play Space Station 13.
When you figure out how to recreate Michaelangelo's painting of the Sistine chapel with feces and the Clown's genitalia, get back to me.

I like it, keep up the good job! Minecraft seems to be good for your FFxi obsession, sort of.. XD
Read up on quest and ask you ls mates if you can get assistance. IDk, try something but in the mean time, keep build some mean Minecraft locations! How about Sky or Aht Urhgan Whitegate? ^o^

once we finish sandy our next target is jeuno, and then windy after jeuno.

You should add bostanieux oubliette to your sandoria

I dunno about model viewers, but I'm sure combined maps of cities (they exist somewhere) would be useful.
If you really wanna go all out, make the whole world of Vana'diel (I will give you all the likes I can if you continue this)!

challenge acepted.
might take a while to get all of the various shades of poo and wang together IRL to make it...... getting the wangs willingly might be hard.... but my friend did just buy me a new cigar cutter...... hrrrrrmmmmmm.
*this is completely meant in jest. i do not intend to go cutting off genitalia with a cigar cutter.....

No rush, I was just referencing an obscure PC game that makes up for being completely terrible by being hilarious. It features a similar construction mechanic to Minecraft, and you actually can make paintings with poo, but the only thing you can't take from the Clown is his dong.

I was working on a Whitegate on Minecraft last year, but doing it by myself was a lot of work lol I only ended up getting the Whitegate side (MH, AH, Pankration, both ports, Palace, the middle fountain) done and that was it. I had planned to do more zones, a full Vana'diel would have been cool but yeah.

Doing a quick search on YouTube, you can find a few of these things actually... now I'm just waiting for a project that combines them all in one map for a complete replica of FFXI.
Port Jeuno in Minecraft (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqaKOMJH_-g)
Why not just build a false floor below the area and build the notes in? you will have alarger area to play them from.
the real question is will the bostanieux oubliette exits line up right with west rona and the chateau or will you have to play with them to get it lined up? guess the same could be said of most zones, ordelle's caves would be a nightmare too
could build a neither portal at each trail markings to lead into the dynamis version

oh, no everything is off scale for the maps, it will take alot of planning and measuring to get it all to measure up.

Hope you got a cold weather biome in the right place so you can connect Ronfaure to Beaucedine Glacier via Ranguemont Pass :D
Castle Zvahl would need a lot of obsidian and snow :D

Connecting areas doesn't have to be too hard. Keep in mind that the game skips quite a bit of land whenever we zone. Notice how it goes from grassland as far as the eye can see when you stand in latheine looking at the zone line to the dunes, and when you zone to the dunes, it's sand as far as you can see towards latheine. Looks like at least several hundred yards of skipped terrain there. Maybe even a mile in some cases.
Just keep this in mind and use fillers to make things connect.

This is true... zoning compensates for more running and we don't see a change of environment before our eyes. Maybe there's a way to fill in those gaps with actual/real-time transition. IDK how "Minescape" really functions but maybe there's a limit to areas you can fit? Probably divide your regions?
What would everything look from an airship I wonder, lol! That would seriously look cool!

minecraft is limitless in creator mode if im not mistaken, if you walk in a straight line, you will never loop back arround to where you started.
as for the creation and fillers, its a whole lot of work, but me and my friend have basically put the zones into a 32 bit base line for city map conversions, field zones are looking to be a 64 bit conversion, and dungeons are varying from 8-32 bit conversions. thankfully most dungeons are below ground and can theoretically be converted to whatever bitconversion we want to do since they shouldn't ever connect to one another.
theres so much to do to get this just right, and theres so much we want to build lol. getting jeuno right is going to be fun..... sky exterior will be fun (tho i might build the interior, and then build the exterior arround it) the zone im really looking foward to tho.... is yhotar and yuhtunga >_> i dont have the testicular fortitude to undertake that project without a whole lot more experience at making stuff in mine craft.

Ain't there a program you can put a map file into and it will build it for you in minecraft? Wouldn't look as good by hand but would still be neat to look at. ^^
