My boyfriend and I are attempting to play FF11 on 2 machines simultaneously. (Either 2 xboxes, or an xbox and a PC) In either case, one of us keeps getting booted. It's not XBOX live, cause I still have a connection there, and I don't think it's the router because we have a DIR-615, and it's on the list of approved routers for multiple xbox sign-ins and we have no problems playing Mass Effect 3 in the same party. Please Help.

Are you trying to play 2 characters on the same account (as in, they both appear on same character selection screen)? If so, that would be why... Only way you can play 2 (or more) characters at same time is for to have a seperate account for each

And to clarify, you can be on the same SE account, but not on the same POL account. You will each need one fully paid POL account to play more than one character simultaneously.

That's right. You need one subscription per simultaneous character. One subscription with two characters won't let both characters play at the same time.

Thank you Mirage, Arcon, and Mayoyama for the clarification and explanation. Margott, if you're both logging into the same PlayOnline ID you can only access one character at a time on the account, it will automatically kick the other off once you log in. If you indeed have 2 separate PlayOnline IDs and you are seeing a connection drop when one system tries to get online then you may be facing a larger issue of an IP conflict between your devices but we need to first figure out the kind of accounts you're logging into. Thanks!

Thank you all for the feedback. We both have separate accounts of all types. What had happened is that our router had been turned into a DMZ for one of the game systems and it took us a bit to figure out what had happened and how to undo it. We're able to play now. Thank you

You can still use DMZ for one system, but it is not recommended. Instead, you must make sure that you have the proper ports for FFXI opened in the firewall settings of the router.
TCP 25, 80, 110, 443, 50000-65535
UDP 50000-65535
The low number ports are primarily for POL and things like the outdated mail system, but those ports are going to be enabled automatically anyway. (Otherwise, you could not check your email for your ISP or browse web sites.) The main ones you want to be sure are open are the ones from 50000-65535. Make sure you open them for both TCP and UDP.
