Steps:
1. "Equips Brachyura Earring and/or Sheltered Ring".
2. Get Protect/Shell from the book, and Protect/Shell are not "Enhanced".

I was out soloing random things earlier so I thought I would get Protect/Shell beforehand. So I run out to a nearby book with one of the for-mentioned items equipped and proceeded to get said buffs.

Needless to say they didn't get "Enhanced" at all even when said items state "Enhances effect of Protect and Shell cast on wearer".
