Now I am not going to flame y'all for posting suggestions, or try to stifle your creative process or anything. And I know there's been other threads such as this one you're currently taking the time to read. Done so in a less neutral tone in most cases... And I am saddened that those who need to read this most, lack the patience to do so. I challenge you however to try.
Odd request, but... can you be more abstract in your requests?
I find a lot of these dreamer posts are mired in the specifics. That can both help you, as well as hurt you. If you think your job should get preferential treatment, or you think that there's a new job ability that would greatly aid in balancing the jobs or add to the theme of a job specifically, might I ask you do so in a way that fosters discussion?
On that note, please try to aid others in the understanding of your idea. I find more times than not, people are arguing for two sides to the same coin. Caught up over a specific. Suggest: "I belive we need the ability to do x" backed up with "because of y". And be prepared for another perspective; one that might not agree with yours'.
Please note that there are 20ish jobs and a million way to play each. And while the way you envision playing Job x, might be intentionally limited, because Job y's main purpose is to do what you're trying to do. In easier terms, no one job is going to do everything.
At this time, please also note that developers have ideas too. They're not too prone to discussing them, usually for business reasons. Your ideas might be good, sure. But they are trying to tell you their story, not yours. You're a guest. Just as you might disagree with the ending of a movie, so will you disagree with the way the game plays out. And in talking about your ideas, as said before, it's easier to communicate in the abstract.
What does it mean to be abstract? The simplest way to put it: instead of saying say:
Dancer needs a dispel flourish called "Flashy Flourish" that can dispel 1-5 buffs from a monster depending on how many finishing move you possess.
Instead say something along the lines of:
Dancer's only limitation while soloing is ice spikes. If we were given a means to make that less annoying, the job would be a lot more enjoyable to play.
Or:
My schedule puts me at playing in wierd times, and I find myself soloing/duoing a lot. Support is really hard to find, and I CAN solo, but I run into obstacles that are really more annoying that they should be... Like Ice Spikes having a near 100% proc rate...
Now you see? The first example, you've taken a broad concept, boxed it into a narrow finite solution that has no flexibility, and to boot, you have limited the naming options should SE decide to use your idea. (They can't use the name you picked due to possible legal ramifications...)
In the second and third example there was the MAIN issue highlighted and several avenues to solving that problem. like:
1) How do we make content for people that are more casual, or play outside their regions' usual times?
2) Is Ice Spike possibly too potent? Has it lead to undue player stress?
3) Why is dancer such a strong/chosen solo class? what can we take from that to add to other jobs? Or how can we promote these people into teaming up better?
4) Could we add some kind of Dispel ability that doesn't leave other jobs out of well.... a job?
5) Are the goals for dancers related to annoying mobs with Ice Spikes? Or are the players defaulting to dancer too frequently?
6) Are these barriers acceptable? Would changing them cause an imbalance issue offering an even quicker avenue to attain gear? Would we end up with nothing but Dancers? Or Mnk+Whm Duos?
And so on.
It's NOT just the developers either. There's a lot of smart folks that MAYBE have advice to ease your difficulty. Like maybe you would find out that Ice Spikes on a certain mob only occur when you do x. (just as an example)
Yes, the trolls are out in force. The irony they exist to muck up this forum and make it worse, and yet complain that "people are dumb" amuses me. How do you, a troll, know how dumb something is, when you yourself are saying things that are so dumb it's hard to tell the 'trolling' from 'bad adcice'? You guys can't even tell when you discuss it amongst yourselves...
To both sides, the dreamers, and the trolls, please note a very important concept:
Impact Before Intent.
Your sophomoric humor, your sarcasm, and your wit might come off as trolling. Your trolling might come off as genuine concern. This is text, a limited medium we're reduced to for the purposes of communicating here. We can't see the smile behind the playful jab, or the concerned furrow of one's brow when writing a response, or the obvious sarcasm from years of being a jaded internet junkie... All anyone has is their default reactions, and that's different for everyone.
Pick your battles... If you're trolled, sometimes, it's just not you. There are just people out there that haven't learned how to communicate very well. Or more accurately: they argue efficiency. It's easier to refute a differing opinion by attacking the one delivering it. Or it's a quick win to deliver a one-sided argument especially if the argument is absurd and unfounded or unrelated. Let people make fools of themselves. Ad hominem attacks on ones opponent are a tried-and-true strategy for people who have a case that is weak. But they are also transparent as hell...
On that:
Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
Please note, that even an angry scream, or a bully's punch carries information... To quickly are we to ignore that, for fear, in responding, we are enabling such behavior; or worse, if we don't respond, we've been made a fool of. This is a forum on the internet. The likelihood this will affect your real life is slim, which is where the callous dismissive nature is derived. It can also be your greatest defense. To be able to see differing opinions and exchange them, is human.
