Melee damage is getting rather ridiculous with the damage escalation at 99 from the addition of new equips and weapons. Any chance Mages can get in on some of that love? Feel free to contribute or comment. I'm just throwing ideas around.


I thought of something that would be kinda cool for rdm but its too powerful. It would be either self-target spell or JA or if other targets, mages strictly. Echo. Effect in a nutshell, it turns cures or nukes into say a 3 tic DOT/HOT. Lets use thunder IV and Cure IV as examples, lets assume a modest 1000 damage thunder IV and a 600 Cure IV. Once cast the spell would take effect as normal initially, however 3 seconds later would repeat at half potency, then quarter potency another 3 seconds later. So thunder would inflict 1000 > 500 > 250 for a grand total of 1750, and that same cure IV would heal 1050 hp. Too strong, likely best a single cast per use, or short durration but i thought id share the idea.

I think this idea is pretty cool, which is why I re-posted it. I'm not sure if this would be implemented for RDM or not, but it would be nice for any mage.

For RDM, I would want to have -JA spell debuffs on Tier II and III magic. The point being you cast Tier II > Tier III > Tier IV. Tier II does normal damage, Tier III does slightly increased damage, Tier IV does further increased damage because it has the debuff from the Tier II and Tier III.

Everyone that has the same element could benefit from its effect for a small duration of time. BLMs could throw -JAs with it and SCH could setup weather and nuke, SMNs could summon appropriate avatars, COR could throw shots. We could setup mage-oriented parties.

Basically just a more convoluted helix or regen but more difficult to code.

BLMs already have this in the form of AM/AM2 and ~ja spells.
NIN already has this with ele wheel.
BRD has this for resist rate with threnodies.
