View Full Version : Fencer affecting Ranged Attacks
I apologize for not following proper bug report format on this one, but this is a very commonly-known "issue" that I feel needs to be addressed.
There is an issue with the Job Trait "Fencer" which reads: "Increases Critical Hit Rate when wielding with the main hand only. Grants a TP Bonus to weapon skills." The issue is that, when conditions for Fencer are met by single-wielding a one-handed weapon, the bonus effects are also applied to Ranged Attacks.
Being that the only jobs to get Fencer naturally are Warrior, Bard, and Beastmaster, none of which actively use ranged attacks, I do not feel this is intentional. Warrior gets the trait within subjob level, which mostly goes to help Paladins subbing Warrior to use the trait as it's intended, but is also being used by Rangers and sometimes Corsairs single-wielding daggers so they get their bonuses on Ranged Attacks.
Please address this issue so that the bonuses granted by the "Fencer" Job Trait are no longer applied to ranged attacks.

Dude throw Rangers a freaking bone. WARs don't even use Fencer because they 100% of the time use a 2h weapon unless procing. THe only jobs that USE Fencer are jobs that single wield and sub WAR like PLD COR and RNG. It's a terrible trait that should have gone to PLD and RDM main since both of those jobs specialize in swords, not BRD, BST or WAR. The only two jobs qualified to be 'Fencers' are Paladins since they're swordsmen, and RDMs which are considered Duelists. They ought to change the name of the trait 'Fencer' to be something slightly less offensive to jobs that could have better used the trait and to jobs that the word 'Fencer' more aptly applies to. Not really sure how a Beastmaster or a Bard is a fencer anyway. I get the idea of the trait, it's supposed to be for jobs that can't use 2h weapons or have dual wield like bst and brd but call it something different like 'Adroitness' or "Nimble Strike" "Savvy-Handed"

Does the OP really thinks that RNG/WAR or COR/WAR is supposed to be an actual issue? If you are choosing to only use a 1 handed weapon instead of a staff or dual wielding, then why is this exploitation? You're making a decision.
It's not like Fencer is desirable for almost anyone that could use it naturally. Why shouldn't the only people that can find a use for it, be not allowed as well?

People are always calling for nerfs on the official forums. It's pretty much par for the course, although this is one of the stupider complaints i've seen.
Edit: And I'm not sure why the OP thinks this a bug. No where in the game description does it say the bonus only applies to melee attacks. WAR has a native marksmanship skill and even has a group 2 merit dedicated to enhancing ranged accuracy with Aggressive Aim, which leads me to believe that this isn't a bug at all, but intended. Just because the playerbase have dubbed WARs using ranged attacks as lol, doesn't mean that the devs see it the same way.

OH NO!
Some folks have found a way to make a useless trait into something mildly useful and rendered the universe slightly less absurd!

I just would like to know the reason for Ryx to call for this nerf... All I imagine is that he lost in a parse with his (input any DD here) to a RNG and he didnt like it at all.

He just wants to stomp on some other jobs because DRG isn't "useful".

This is actually no different from how Hasso affects ranged attacks when using a two handed weapon. There is nothing wrong going on here.

Good DRGs are useful, but they have Mythics. Anything else, isn't a good DRG.

Hello Ryx,
Thank you very much for posting your concern for how the Job Trait Fencer works. Though at this time this would be more feedback on said ability. So we will be moving this thread to the Battle Content (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/forums/90) section of the Forums. We appreciate all of your views on this trait and please feel free to discuss more at length on the matter. Thank you all and have a great day!

I bet the GM moved it to this forum just because he knows more people browse this one, and thus more people can nerdrage at the OP. I like the cut of this guy's jib.
