Does anyone have any idea what the augment actually does.

I've tested it with it on and off. Before and after activate and no change in magic damage.

I noticed a huge improvement in melee critical hits/damage.

Doesn't seem to make any difference with Magic Damage.

Enhances Optimization effect by +1% Critical Hit Damage and +2% Magical Critical Hit Damage per merit level.

You obviously won't get any boost to non-crit magic spells. If you have no way to make the automaton's spells crit in the first place, you won't see any boost to damage at all.

Also remember that a magic crit is no where near as potent as a melee crit to start with. Melee crit usually does more than double a regular hit, whereas a magic crit just adds a tiny amount (~10) of MAB.

You need to pair it with Pantin Dastanas +2 (Augmented). Or hope for a MCHR attachment in the upcoming attachment release. (It's planned for this month.)
