I was thinking the other day that bard really kind of got the shaft as far as its "magic ability level" is concerned. They are the only job in the game that can do music, but the singing skill, stringed instrument skill, and wind instrument skills are very low comparatively with other jobs and their skills. A "C" level in these skills doesn't make sense to me at all. A higher skill would help with things such as having the thredony songs stick more often in case it is a yellow trigger in abyssea for example. Just a thought, what do other people think? What does SE think?

That just shows how little you know about BRD.
Go learn how bard magic works, then reread your comment.

Unlike other jobs where 1 skill is all that matters for an action, such as Enfeebling, BRD uses a total between its singing & instrument skills so far as I know. Even at a low rank, this actually puts them above others easily. For instance, RDM has an Enfeebling Magic of 424 at lv99 cap, however BRD only has a 373 cap, but its 373 for Singing, and another 373 for Instrument, so really its a total of 746, far above & beyond that 424 of the A+ of other skills like RDM Enfeebling.

Nope, unless you're referencing that Perfect Defense would cap at that level. As far as I've ever seen players have always been the ones to find the caps besides the PD reference. Also as to songs Sentinel's Scherzo takes 800 skill to cap.

RDM Enhancing spells all seem to cap out at 500 I believe.

I meant on the whole
Didn't SE say that skills cap @600? subject. If just talking about BRD skills then I believe the cap at 600 total yeah, not sure though. Think that was part of the complaint originally that BRD gear became mostly worthless because after 75 cap was broken no gear was required to cap your potency for buffs. But as for other jobs, I think SMN capping at 600 was SE saying it as an example.
•Summoner
•Alexander's Perfect Defense
•Effect duration will be reduced from ninety seconds to thirty seconds plus an additional second for every twenty points of one's summoning magic skill. For example, with a summoning magic skill value of 600, the ability's effect duration would be a maximum of sixty seconds (the base thirty seconds plus thirty more seconds for one's skill value). In either case, different things have different caps, but as for BRD I do believe it caps at 600 skill total for buffs, I have no clue about debuffs, I would assume they have no skill cap and it simply continues to effect the accuracy of songs. I assume Enfeebling Magic Skill does it the same way, if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

It depends on the buff in question. Scherzo has 800 cap, while Victory March has 600 cap, Advancing March is lower I believe.

For debuffs sadly we dont know exactly how the combined skill works, its only assumed its scaled somehow, otherwise it would be just too high.

Thanks for the input, I didn't know that the singing skill was combined with the instrument skills. If this is the case, then I do note that /brd is at a severe disadvantage, since all instruments are brd only. If they make instruments equipable even if you have /brd then that would make up for it.
