I'm getting god awful screen tearing with this game, and I can't figure out why. Anyone have any tips as to what I can do to eliminate/reduce this? Making the game extremely difficult/annoying to play, since it's heavily distracting.
Edit: Running on an ASUS G73JWA1. Intel Core i7, nvidia GTX 460m, 8GB RAM.

Howdy,
Usually visual tearing is caused by the card not being able to keep up with the graphics which are being rendered. There are a few things that you'll want to do first, to make sure you're playing on the same level as everyone else.
- Update your DirectX to the latest version here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
- Update your graphics drivers here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/50007
- Update Windows: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
This may improve your performance overall. Now specifically for tearing you will want to check the options for Vertical Sync (vsync) under your Nvidia card settings and enable it. The other few things would be to lower the graphics in general on the FFXI Setup utility in the same folder as the POL Viewer and changing your monitors display resolution. You may even want to try it in windowed mode to see if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Are you playing in windowed mode with aero turned off?
As far as I know, with aero turned off, the windows desktop is not running with vsync activated. Because windowed applications run in the same display mode as the windows desktop, these do not get vsync either.

MIRAGE IF I COULD HUG YOU AND KISS YOU LOVE YOU ALL OVER I WOULD RIGHT NOW (no homo)
Seriously though, that fixed it rofl. And who wouldn't play in windowed mode? Especially a noob like me that has to google something every five seconds lol.
