View Full Version : Japanese Keyboard
I have some questions for any of your that use one because I have really wanted to be able to type Kana and Kanji inside FFXI for a very long time.
1) Any recomendations on a good one?
2) Is there any additional system configurations involved with them? I have Japanese language setup on my PC already, but when I have tried to type Japanese in FFXI in the back, it shows up as "???".
3) How is a Japanese keyboard different than the setup I have now? (English keyboard with the option to type Japanese)
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. There's a JP button(No, not that one.) and each key can do about 3 different characters. Otherwise they're physicaly contructed the same.

Pretty sure you can't type in Japanese in any other release other than the Japanese release due to the use of a specific IME (I guess) built by a third party specifically for the Japanese version.
I think that's what I remember reading. Either way, you can't type in Japanese in the English version without using a third party tool.

So even if I do obtain a Japanese keyboard, I will not be able to type Kana or Kanji on FFXI without using a 3rd party program (which is not allowed)?

I'm not sure what this means.
Nope meaning I can't, or nope meaning I am wrong and I can?

You can, however, use the JP version of playonline which would allow you to type in Japanese using IME or a japanese keyboard. Doesn't require any 3rd party tools.

Only if he wants the ffxi to be in japanese.

1) if you are using english version of FFXI, you can't type japanese without third party tools
2) if you are using english version of windows, you need to install japanese language pack/IME before you can do it.

starts with something transparent placed in the holes in the walls of houses, and ends with the letter R
But discussing such things on SE's own forums (even if everyone uses it) is probably not a good idea. This is a topic you should visit a fansite forum for, such as http://forums.ffxiclopedia.com

I have a Japanese keyboard... works on the PS3... but it functions like a standard U.S. keyboard on Windows... the Kana and Alphanumeric keys don't do anything.

Japanese keyboards have the best ASCII art in the world. I'm jealous.
