configuration help

Well I was thining about giving this a try again after several years, but using the keyboard kinda makes me nausous. I am trying to configure my gamepad and I went into the configuration utility like XIV has and configured it but it does nothing in game. Can anyone help so I can give this a try. I really know it will be awesome if I can move around better.

Did you test the gamepad in the configuration utility first?

If you downloaded the game from steam i´ve got a tip for you.
Dont start the config program from steam. Got to steam folder/steamapps/FFXI/toolsEU/Pad congif (i dont recall the exact name).
This works for the game config program too.
