This actually applies to all pets in my opinion, but providing a way for pets to receive the effects of songs/rolls would greatly improve the overall usefulness of automatons in heavy dd situations.

COR has pet dice, but I don't think I've ever seen a COR use them other then pre-fight frolicking... Most CORs only buy them for OCD purposes. (Obsessive Completion Desire)

The problem is that the pet rolls target the master. Instead of buffing the pets, they give the master Pet: + stuff, which is incredibly roundabout and completely defeats the purpose of the rolls. The only time I've ever seen pet rolls used practically was doing Early Bird lowman with a pld, a cor, a smn, and me on pup, where the cor was giving us drachen roll (was before they switched drachen and puppet rolls) and himself wizard's roll, and we were burning the fucker down with BPs, Nukes, and Quick Draws.

And they can't say it is impossible to do because in Campaign I have seen bst pets get buffs there.

"The ability to Buff pets like you would a player would make them overpowered" - SE

There's really no reason why it would be overpowered for PUP, as automatons are pretty much the closest thing to a playing character. DRG can buff their wyvern with merits thrown into Empathy to allow up to 5 buffs to be transferred and with AF2+2 to extend the duration further. It would probably be overpowered for BST since their pets have the highest attack power and HP out of all pets and SMN's avatars are expendable so their buffs wouldn't last long for it to be worthwhile. If the development team ever considered this idea for implementation, they would probably add it as an attachment which is incredibly stupid since we're lacking the space.

This isn't really about buffs, but the topic title "Automatons and buffs" so...

Long ago, before I had my favorite attachments memorized for each head/frame combo, I would have loved the ability to save attachment "sets" or templates for each configuration. You could select a template, in the Automaton equipment menu, and all the saved attachments would automatically be equipped. That would have been a nice touch, and even today, imagine being able to switch Automaton head/frame combo's in about 5 seconds. So to clarify, going from Soulsoother to Spiritreaver would look something like:
(Deactivate at 100% HP, switch heads, select your saved BLM template, Activate [100% HP & MP])

I realize the difference between going between two mage frames is usually a matter of switching a light or dark attachment or two, so this would have been a minor convenience, really. But going from melee to magic (and vice versa), it would probably be more useful.

Don't really see how this would be overpowered if it was say the new 2h ability instead of the one we are getting which just feels extremely boring.

even if they don't let pets be hit by party buffs, the auto is buffing ME! Why, pray tell, is it not buffing itself?

on that subject, the whm auto will heal other party members, and remove debuffs, why will it not buff them?

The auto buffing itself would be almost as annoying as the old -na's before cures AI. Imagine Stormwaker stopping to cast protect, shell, haste, stoneskin and phalanx on itself every time you DAD for mp.

Soulsoother will buff other party members but it can be tricky. It will only buff others if you are already fully buffed, have a water maneuver up* and they are the one with the mobs attention (top of the hate list). When I'm out with ls mates getting seals I usually have them solo a mob until Charlie prot/shells them.

On topic give us an empathy like ability that copies our buffs over to our puppet, have it consume oils, the higher tier oils copy over more buffs. Or add the effect to maintenance, if there are no status ailments to remove a buff is copied over instead.

*Pretty sure you need a water up, must double check next time I'm on.

If Embrava applied to Automaton it would be great.

The automaton wouldn't buff itself, it would cast a spell on the master which also affects itself.

It would be nice if the WHM automaton had access to spells like Protectra 5, Shellra 5 and Curaga 5. Would be a real time and MP saver in party situations. Also I'm a little annoyed by the fact that we have to deploy our automaton for it to cast any enhancing magic of any kind. They really should make it act similar to light spirit when it's not deployed since, if I remember, light spirit is the only pet in the game where it will cast spells, both enhancing and cures, when it's not engaged with a mob.
