Starting a new topic specifically for feedback regarding this:
As a solution for now, it's certainly possible that removing some outdated words or phrases will free some needed memory. We can then use that memory for newer and more useful terms.
If there is a word or phrase that you wish was there for you on your adventures,
(Can I have it?) (Yes, please.)
If there are any auto-translation terms/phrases that you feel must go, you can let us know too!
I think (L1 Button) is getting nervous.

I'd say keep {doll} in there at least. Useful for any magian trial that requires doll mobs. Adding terms for all 8 days would be convenient, but not necessary. When I have to use reference it, I just use {fire} {day of the week}.

✕ and ◯ should at least be accessible in some form, they're a good way of communicating "yes" and "no" to JP audience in an understandable manner.

I didn't think of doll-type enemies. Doll does have a place then. I also removed Diary. Maybe someone out there shouts in futility: {Assault} {Diary} {Help me out!}

Also I think "hole" can be removed, we all know what you people use it for.

Going through the entire AT list as I write this post... and here's what I think should go (sorry for any duplicates, which will probably be most of them):
Controller:
This whole category.
Keyboard:
This whole category.
Game terms:
- Ability (we have "Job Ability")
- Auction (we have "Auction House")
- audience (no clue what this is for tbh)
- battle strategies (we have "What's the battle plan?")
- Campaign (we have "Campaign battle" and "Campaign Ops")
- Campaign Evaluation (we have "Allied Tags")
- Care (we have "Care schedule")
- checkpoint garrison (we have "Outpost")
- Confederate Icon (too Campaign-specific)
- Conflict (we have "Ballista" and "Brenner")
- Courser (chocobo breeds are just for flavor, they don't need to be an AT term)
- Destrier (chocobo breeds are just for flavor, they don't need to be an AT term)
- Fortifications (too Campaign-specific)
- Gordeus (plot-important but nothing really beyond that, unlike Astral Candescence)
- Heroism Gauge (too Campaign-specific. BTW for those who don't know, this refers to the gauge underneath regions on the Campaign map that refer to the potential intensity of the campaign battles held in that region)
- Immortals (we have "Blue Mage")
- In Conflict (we have "Ballista" and "Brenner")
- internal policy (wut?)
- Jennet (chocobo breeds are just for flavor, they don't need to be an AT term)
- Layer Area (wut?)
- Layout (wut?)
- Log (too... un-specific. We have "Woodworking" already)
- Mental (wut?)
- Mercenary Assessment (I know it refers to Assault rank, but I don't see why it needs its own term)
- Mercenary Rank (every Assault rank has its own term already)
- Morale (too Campaign-specific)
- opinion poll (too Campaign-specific)
- Outing (wut?)
- Owner (wut?)
- Palfrey (chocobo breeds are just for flavor, they don't need to be an AT term)
- Petra (too Ballista-specific)
- Physical (physical what?)
- Plan length (we have "Care schedule")
- Production (too Campaign-specific)
- Prosperity (too Campaign-specific)
- Quarry (too Ballista-specific)
- Rank Evaluation (not sure what this even refers to, but probably doesn't need to be there for the same reason as "Campaign Evaluation" and "Mercenary Assessment")
- Reconnaissance (too Campaign-specific)
- Rent-a-Room (with the "merging" of Mog Houses, this became a mostly pointless term)
- Resources (too Campaign-specific)
- Retirement (wut?)
- Rook (too Ballista-specific)
- Rounsey (chocobo breeds are just for flavor, they don't need to be an AT term)
- Runic Seal (unnecessary. Why have that there but not things like, "Burning Circle"?)
- Scout (too Ballista-specific)
- Skill (we have "Weapon Skill" and "Skillchain")
- skill (Campaign) (obviously, too Campaign-specific)
- Treasure (too unspecific. We already have "Item")
- User Glossary (doesn't need to be there)
- war climate details (good lord, too Campaign-specific)
Modes of Transport:
Can leave all these there, but would it help memory at all to simply put these into the "Game Terms" category? It's only three terms (Airship, Chocobo, Ship) and they don't really need their own category.
Titles:
Take out all the NPC-specific titles that players don't get. These include:
- Archduke
- Cardinal
- Chief
- Chieftainness
- Clerk
- High Guard
- King
- Knight
- Minister
- Musketeer
- President
- Prince
- Princess
- Shopkeep
- Theologian
Trade:
No removals, but a suggested change:
- Change the terms "Buy?" and "Sell?" into terms that make it more clear as to what the speaker wants to do, such as perhaps "Looking to buy:" and "Looking to sell:", similar to how "Reward:" was made to distinguish from the JA "Reward". It's possible that these terms are only ambiguous on the English client but have clearer meaning on other clients.
Organize:
- Are you alone? (come on, only creepers use this one)
- Let's try to keep the levels of our party members close. (usage of this pretty much died out with Level Sync, which in turn died with GoV)
Place Names:
- San d'Oria Residential Area (redundant. We already have "Mog House")
- Bastok Residential Area (see above)
- Windurst Residential Area (see above)
- Jeuno Residential Area (see above)
- Hall of Binding (too Besieged-specific and unnecessary. We already have "Astral Candescence")
- Open sea route to Al Zahbi (I'm sure not all the ship routes get their own AT entries, so why does this one have one?)
- Open sea route to Mhaura (same deal here)
- Silver Sea route to Al Zahbi (same deal here)
- Silver Sea route to Nashmau (same deal here)
Reasons:
- I'm sleepy. / I'm tired. (kinda redundant, get rid of one)
Online Status:
This one's actually an addition:
- Offline (well, if "Online" is there, why isn't this one there?)
Shops:
- Scrap this category and move Auction House, Chocobo Stables, and Vendor to the Game Terms category. None of the others need to be there, as they are far more niche and the terms are never used.
Fiends:
Nothing to remove here, but with extra memory space, please consider additions in this category, along with the obvious things like JA/spell names. These are commonly utilized terms for magian trials.
Equipment:
Honestly, this entire category can go. People use the specific names for an equipment slot or a specific piece of equipment that goes in it, not these generic terms.
General Terms:
This is a tricky one, because I know the AT system was designed to help foster communication, even when it comes to non-gameplay-related things. However, since we've long been at the point where the AT system cannot support all the necessary gameplay-related terms, I think most of this category needs to be on the chopping block too.
Terms that might be able to stay, either due to practicality or already finding extensive use by the playerbase:
- answer
- anyone
- anything
- breath
- character
- entrance
- everyone
- exit
- friend
- idea
- interest
- key
- language
- luck
- medicine
- plan
- all the skillchain names
Some people might say even that's too much. Regardless, a lot of it can be chopped off.
Game Terms 2:
- All the Campaign Ops mission names can go. There's no need for these all to be there when most other quest/mission names are not. If anything, maybe leave the ones there that require a group of 3 people to participate in.
- All the Union names can go. Too Campaign-specific, no one cares. If anything, just leave the term "Union" in there somewhere.
- "Maze" can be taken out. "Maze Mongers" suffices.
- Removing all of that pretty much removes about 80-85% of the category. The rest of the terms can probably be shuffled to more appropriate categories.
That's about it for now. Sorry for the length, but there is a lot of stuff that needs to be caught up on >_>

These are all actual words in Japanese, just like "yesterday" and not "day before today." I know people complain that Japanese players don't use the translate function, but I still wouldn't remove three pretty basic time related words that get used a lot in daily speech.

Remove:
All the Dynamis entries:
Add:
Dynamis
Abyssea
Saves about 7 spaces doing that. So you can can Auto Translate:
[San D'Oria] [Dynamis]
or [Abyssea] [Grauberg (S)]

Same with Promyvion. Really any areas like that with most of it already in the auto trans should be gotten rid of and the other parts added, alot of room would come of it.

Having done quite a bit with JP.. theres a few things you mentioned should be removed, but they actually do get used.
Controller:
This whole category.
The O and X are actually used to indicate yes (O) and no (X) to JP
Keyboard:
This whole category.
Game terms:
- Ability (we have "Job Ability")
- Fortifications (too Campaign-specific)
- Log (too... un-specific. We have "Woodworking" already)
- Mercenary Rank (every Assault rank has its own term already)
- Physical (physical what?)
- Skill (we have "Weapon Skill" and "Skillchain")
- Treasure
<Log><Please check it> (Log means chat log not log of wood afaik)
<Enemy><Physical><Attack><Take care> (take care actually translates into "be careful" in JP.. not "see you later")
<Mercenary rank><What?>
<Sword><Skill><Level><What?>
<Treasure><You can have this>
This is quite ambiguous... I have had many cases where I thought someone was buying something but instead wanted to sell to me ><
Place Names:
- Open sea route to Al Zahbi (I'm sure not all the ship routes get their own AT entries, so why does this one have one?)
- Open sea route to Mhaura (same deal here)
- Silver Sea route to Al Zahbi (same deal here)
- Silver Sea route to Nashmau (same deal here)
Fishing routes
Equipment:

A few that should stay: Artifact, armor, earring, racial gear (RSE), Ring

The X's and O's are a nice way to get KEYs into the text.. These will be missed if removed but i'd use (/yes) and (/no) in their place.

Regarding O and X, maybe just include those two without the "button" part, but scrap the rest of the controller/keyboard category.
Remove:
{In what order shall we use our weapon skills?} - Most people don't even know what a skillchain is anymore
{Heal!} or {Healing!}
{Reward} or {Reward:}
{Setting Home Point}
{Mercenary Assessment}/{Mercenary Rank} - Maybe even both
Ballista related stuff in Game Terms, except {Ballista}
Maybe the whole Race catagory, people can abbreviate these like TT, HM, GK etc
Settings & Setup... - {Filter}, {Patch}, {TV} (esp TV, it's the same in every language)
Add:
Was said, {Abyssea} and {Dynamis} would save on spaces for auto translate stuff. Add {Walk of Echoes} and {Provenance}. Keep spaces reserved for Adoulin.
Spells/JAs/Avatars are a given.
Was never actually included: Relic Weapon Skills and Empyrean Weapon Skills.
Game Terms: {Atma}, {Voidwatch}, {Curor}, {Dominion}, {Fields of Valor}, {Grounds of Valor} at the least. Don't really need {Bastion} if your trying to conserve space, depends on what the devs plan to add with Adoulin.

Or just add a simple yes and no, I don't understand how that was not put in in the first place!

The O and X are actually used to indicate yes (O) and no (X) to JP
Last I checked, there are actually O and X keys on our keyboards
<Log><Please check it> (Log means chat log not log of wood afaik)
Then it should be clarified as such. I've personally never seen {Log} used to refer to anything other than Voidwatch.
<Enemy><Physical><Attack><Take care> (take care actually translates into "be careful" in JP.. not "see you later")
Most people just say {Incredibly tough} or {Impossible to gauge} when referring to a particularly difficult enemy.
Also, the {Physical} probably refers to the category of chocobo attributes and not to physical attacks, since there is also a {Mental}. But I still think that neither of those need to be there. Terms for the actual attributes, like {Endurance}, is ok; these two aren't needed.
<Sword><Skill><Level><What?>
Eh, fair enough.
Fishing routes
Again, not all the possible routes are even listed there. Nor do I think there is enough of a reason to have them all listed there.
A few that should stay: Artifact, armor, earring, racial gear (RSE), Ring
Yeah, that kind of stuff is fine. Things like {Bastard Sword} or {Baselard} or {Tunic} though, way too specific to be worth keeping around (and we all know what {Bastard Sword} ever gets used for anyway, and it's not to refer to the actual weapon)
I use these.
The point isn't whether one person uses these, the point is what isn't relevant enough to the game to be worth keeping in, because at this point we've been going for literally years without having actual game-relevant terms (such as the post-75 blue magic spells, for one thing) added to the translate. From a gameplay standpoint, this is far more important than you being able to translate the RL months or being able to quote Cartoon Link.

Or just add a simple yes and no, I don't understand how that was not put in in the first place!
Yes and no do exsist in translate table.
/yes
/no
These are emotes commands.

{Reward} or {Reward:}
These are actually pretty relevant, since "Reward" is a Beastmaster ability, and "Reward:" signifies an actual compensation for a service in-game. It makes a difference to JP players.

{In what order shall we use our weapon skills?} - Most people don't even know what a skillchain is anymore
And in the few cases we actually want to do a skillchain, we can use {Weaponskillone} -> {Weaponskilltwo} -> {Skillchainname} {Yes, please} to communicate this with foreign players.
To list a few things myself (even if many of them have been mentioned already):
A lot (most) of the controller/keyboard terms. Instead of O-button and X-button to communicate yes/no, we can use {Yes, please} or {No, thanks}. I think {Trigger} can stay, because it is used for pop items/weakness targeting (i think), but you could remove that if you added real terms for pop items and weakness targeting.
Here is an idea, though. Would it be possible for SE to take perhaps a month's worth of chat logs and run them through a sort of log parser and have that program automatically generate a list over the most/least used auto-translate words? I realize this is a *lot* of chat log to parse, but I guess this is what would give the most accurate picture of which terms are used or not.
I think it's pretty safe to entirely remove terms that haven't been used even once in an entire month by the entire player base, for example. Maybe terms that are used less than 1% too.
