I'll put this as laconically as possible. Wyverns are now extremely durable and usually do not die now a days, this is fantasic SE, you've really helped us out. Now the only problem is the DRG tends to die too quick in level 99 content from really powerful legion AoEs like Meteor and whatnot. This is fine and all because most players succumb to the onslaught that is Legion or WoE or other hard battlefields. The problem is that if the Dragoon is KO'd in battle his wyvern goes along with it and if he dies in the first few minutes of a battle, he goes 19+ minutes wyvernless.

No DRG will spend merit points to reduce the recast of Call Wyvern for two reasons.
1) Meritting Jump and High Jump recasts are far more useful because they increase damage.
2) 100 second reduction to Call Wyvern isn't that noticable for a 20 minute recast. Especially for fights which last 30minutes(Legion), getting an 18min recast over a 20min recast isn't going to help much.

When any job is KO'd they're pretty much at maximum effectiveness once Weakness wears off, except DRG. If the DRG's Wyvern recast isn't up they're pretty much useless until it's back. No other job is still gimped after weakness wears except DRG. In other words, if an alliance wipes, everyone can recover to maximum HP/MP in pretty much the 5minutes that "Weakness" lasts, except DRG which is still 'Weakened' technically, until the Wyvern is allowed to be called again, since most of our JAs depend on it.


I propose a quest for the following item:

Wyvern Whistle
(Neck) All Races
Enchantment: "Call Wyvern"
<10/10 0:30/[00:5:00, 0:30]>
Lv.65 DRG

This can be obtained once every conquest tally. This would allow us to Call Wyvern irrespective if the job ability is waiting on recast or not. This would allow us to occasionally call a wyvern once our current wyvern was killed(from full HP with steady wing on) because the dragoon was killed in a single blow by a 2465 damage meteor with Shell V up in the first 40 seconds of a battlefield fight(which means the DRG is a worthless player now for the next 19 minutes and 20 seconds). The recast is 5 minutes to prevent abuse and there are 10 charges. There aren't many times where we would need continuous recast of a wyvern every 5minutes like Call Beast or Summoning Magic but it would give us something akin to a "Deus Ex Automata" except with a 10-charge use per Vana'diel week.

Careful Babekeke, or SE will indeed implement that. I remember that solo battle. It was not only luck-based and time-restricted, but the item was not 100%.

(I've kept it in my mog house since then with like 1 charge left. <.<)

Just be happy its only 20 mins. Pre Dec. 2005 update it was the drg 2hr ability :D

That being said pup, bst and smn all have far smaller timers on getting their pets back. I would say make the change by reducing timers or calling the wyvern in a weakened state like pups can with Deus Ex Automata, but we dont need yet another inventory slot taken away for a job ability.

I'm kind of hoping that we might get a weak call wyvern after they increase the number of JAs available. After all, Spirit link being on such a low timer now means it will get full HP again fairly sharpish. I'd be happy if the 'weak' state meant that it couldn't use breaths for a further 3-5 mins, since it's main purpose these days (when not /mage) is boosting spirit and soul jumps.

Honestly I'm tired of them buffing the Wyvern side of DRG. It's time to give us self enhancing JAs, we're freaking Lancers and Spearmen. We're supposed to be more mobile/nimble warriors, give us an attack speed stance JA like Hasso, give us a warcry that enhances accuracy, an attack boosting JA that restricts breath timers, a JA that makes the next attack(or WS) ignore defense etc...somthing that helps the DRG for a change that doesn't rely on the Wyvern. The only thing wyvern is good for endgame is giving us TP through Spirit/Soul Jump. That's IT. If we were given other JAs to enhance ourselves for when the wyvern dies, which is pretty much 100% of the time in Legion since the wyvern doesn't get Perfect Defense, or what usually happens is the player dies first within 2 seconds of a missed Shocksquall then bam no wyvern for 16 minutes which gimps damage. Other melee jobs are back up to 100% full power after 5min weakness from dying wears but DRG aren't 100% till call wyvern is back.

I'm hoping that if they decrease wait time for SP abilities from 2hours to 30min they'd lower call wyvern to 10min. They already lowered Circle recast from 10min to 5, maybe they'll finally relent and reduce Call Wyvern to 10min. Wyverns are already so weak damage and defense wise compared to pets/avatars, at least make them cheap to recall.

How about this: If you die while your wyvern survives, the wyvern should come back to you automatically when you get raised. At the same HP and status as it had when you died, that is.
