View Full Version : Suggestion: Display remaining ninja tools on the "MP cost" window for ninjutsu

Hi devs and comreps.
Today I brained a bit and asked myself "wouldn't it be nice if I could see the amount of tools left in my inventory in the "MP Cost" window of the user interface whenever I used ninjutsu?"
The only answer I could come up with was "Yes, that would be awesome!"
It would probably be enough to display the number of tools left in the inventory, not also count the sack, satchel, and un-used toolbags. This way, we would always know exactly when it's time to pop another toolbag, move something out of the sack or satchel, and such.
For situations where your main job is ninja, and you have both specific tools and multipurpose tools, the game would add these two together for a total amount of available uses. If your main job isn't ninja, this shouldn't happen, of course.

its a nice suggestion, but their are a lot of diffrent tools... Would take up a lot more room then the mp counter

Not really. It should display different tools for each spell. If you move your cursor over utsusemi ichi/ni, it would display remaining shihei, if you moved it over tonko ichi/ni, it would display remaining shinobi tabi. Just like the MP cost values change depending on which spell you have selected.
You don't need to know how much shihei you have left when you're trying to cast Doton: Ni, right?

It is a grand idea, but what about universal tools?
It probably is difficult to implement however, and in the case that it is too difficult, I think it should be added to the /recast command, like how charges are listed for certain job abilities.

In the case of universal tools, you could either add both together and show a total value, or Put the universal tools in bracets.
Example of how it could work if you went with adding the two together:
Superninja has 50 shihei, 50 shinobi-tabi and 50 shikanofuda in his active inventory. Entering the ninjutsu magic list, highlighting utsusemi ni will make the "MP cost" window display "Tool: 100", and highlighting tonko ichi will also display "Tool: 100".
After casting Utsu ni, expending 1 shihei, the game will display "Tool: 99" for utsusemi, while it still lists "Tool: 100" For tonko.
Now, if this player was out of shihei and expended one shikanofuda instead to cast utsu ni, the game would now say 49 for utsu, and 99 for tonko.
Alternatively, with bracets:
Highlighting "Utsusemi: Ni" will make the cost window display "50 [50]", after expending one shihei to cast utsu ni, it would display "49 [50]".
If you have more than 99 of each item in your active inventory, this could be displayed by using a different colored font [blue, for example], although I think there is enough room in that window to display three digits for each of the numbers. Additionally, if they take this into consideration already now, it would be much easier to design the new UI in a way that would make these numbers fit.

I would like it if they allowed all jobs to use the universal tools and then made universal tools craft-able and similar in price to the spell specific ones. It's annoying when I have like 20 different spells that I get from ninja sub job and no room to carry the tools so that I can use them. If they would just make the universal tools completely universal and cheap enough, then you would never have to worry about counts.
Not that I don't like the idea of a counter. I don't know how many times I've burned through 20k worth of tools because I forgot to check shihei count before I started fighting.

Ppl use their mouse in game? I sure never do. Only time i touch my mouse is to check some info on GE or ffxiah

Doesn't matter. The exact same thing happens if you highlight the ninjutsu spells with your arrow keys or d-pad on a gamepad.

Hello,
It's a good suggestion since the MP cost is included in the ninjutsu spell descriptions; displaying your remaining tools here would be possible. However, remaining ninja tools are not counted alongside ninjutsu, so I'm afraid it's not possible to display that information within the UI. Also, as previously mentioned, universal ninja tools would further complicate implementing such a feature. Therefore, there are currently no plans to add a remaining tool counter for Ninja.

Could you add reasonably priced universal tools (300k a stack is ridiculous) and make them available for subjob use instead?

Can we get the utsusei counter fixed? It says 4 shadows when I really have 5, so outdated...

It says 4+ not 4.

It says 4+ not 4.
How is that better than 5?

Saves them the time and effort of having to make new icons for any number of shadows higher than 4 for if and when they increase the shadow count higher than 5 for with new gear or other spells or JAs in the future.
No reason to not make a new icon. Also, hoping the new UI they're releasing would allow you to make a GUI function for things like this. [Third parties can already do it.]

I think an average elementary school student could probably whip out new icons for 5 through 100 shadows in less time than it took to come up with that explanation.
