View Full Version : Fishing Fatigue: Why does SE punish it's players?

After a few years of absence from this game I decided to quit WoW and come back to FFXI. Personally I always felt that this game was exceptionally fun so I was eager to start playing again. Anyways this enthusiasm was short lived after I realized how painstakingly hard it is for new players to make gil. I mean really SE...10 fish a day?

How does this in any way prevent RMT? It doesn't...In fact all this does is prevent players from playing the game the way they want to play it while bots find another way to cheat the system. It's sad too since FF14 flopped and FFXI is already struggling to keep players as it is. With the way things are right now this just make me want to log out. After all if I can't fish to make gil what's the point? Sure I could always find another way to make it in this game but I shouldn't have to.

Anyways that's enough ranting since I have a few questions about this lame system. I've heard several different variations of when this "resets" so does it reset at Japanese Midnight or after the weekly conquest update? How do you know if you're fatigued? Will this limit finally be lifted once my character is 2 weeks old or do I have to have 2 weeks playing time.

There are really two types of fatigue. General fatigue that applies to everyone, and new/low level character fatigue. The general fatigue will affect anyone, and it limits you to 200 fish/items per day. Once you catch 200, you will no longer get any bites. Also, it will get progressively harder to fish throughout the 200.

New/low level job fatigue will be active as long as your character is under 2 weeks old, or under level 20. If you get this sort of fatigue from fishing on a low level job, it won't reset until JST midnight, even if you switched to a higher leveled job.

JST Midnight always.

Playing time is not involved, it's based on the time of character creation. You also need to fish with a job that's level 20 or higher, or else that same fatigue will apply still.

Actually, it did help a lot. Bots now have to level to 20 and wait two weeks, which is far too much effort for them. There's no way around that. The fishing itself can be botted, but I think they got that covered with autobanbots as well.
I'm not even sure there are RMT fishbots anymore...
It's probably easier to pretend to be a player and charge 500k gil/character for 5 hours of Fell Cleaving in Abyssea, AND have them pay for forbidden keys themselves to boot.

It isn't remotely hard to make money as a new character. It is far, far easier now than it has ever been. You can pretty easily make well over 100k just getting to level 10 just from drops. Very basic synths that can be done reliably, even with 0 skill, make tons of money, as well. You can buy all the materials, except crystals, for virtually nothing from the guilds, since few people buy them anymore. The reason people pay so much is because high level crafters don't want to waste their time on them. In addition, the money given from FoV and GoV does add up. Gardening can easily make fairly large amounts of money without needing to AH items or requires any major time or effort.

I don't exactly see why you must make your money with low skill level fishing. As a low level player, you can make more money, faster, and more reliably with any of the above methods I mentioned.
