View Full Version : Punishment or Advantage?

I've started the game 5 months ago, I used feel punished for starting "late" because the lack of Traverser Stone and the lack of the Voidstones aswell.
I've spent 5mil gil in a day doing VWNM... w/o any reward.
"Thanks Square Enix for the 90 Voidstone/Traverser Stone per month." /thanksforpunishme.
idk which advantage I can take of starting "late" :) (talking about all other aspects of the game)
Anyway, I'll be always talking/arguing about the need of more players.
This kind of stuff discourages new players to start the game.
I'm not talking that abyssea is hard or something or you can't farm time, some people join the game to try make new friends, not everyone have friends to farm time for them, or like to join linkshells for the lack of stones.

Someone posted a topic about giving newbies extra traverser stones when they first Abyssea. Sorry to inform you, but the general masses hated that suggestion. They don't want you to be able to fully enjoy Abyssea when you start, but instead do quests and things while you patiently wait for your stones to accumulate. I don't understand the sentiment myself, and I hope SE does implement something to help you out.
Post is here:

No kidding! It's not just SE doing this crap either. For instance recently I tried to get tickets to the comedy club in my town, at the last minute, so I could take my dad for his birthday. I wanted stage-side tickets, but they told me that they'd already sold out on purpose just to punish me for not reserving them sooner, and that I was actually lucky to get any seats at all. Well, they didn't say it like that exactly, but it was implied in the guy's tone.

or we could play in a more intelligent and efficient manner and build our time beyond 120 minutes with each visit, you know, so we could build stones while still enjoying an old event.
and vw, you know allied notes, conquest points, and imperial standing trades for voiddust, which act as voidstones.

At the cost of no more than 25k per voiddust, you mean to tell us you did VW over 200 times in a day? Man, that's one every 7 minutes if you played for 24 hours straight!

I think he's saying he bought his cells with gil as well, which you might have to do if you had no cruor saved up (at least to start).
Okay no that still doesn't math out even if you bought both cobalt and rubicund for 100k a stack.

I would say its an acceptable advantage for longer term players I mean that's like me saying my lsmates have an unfair advantage at having a lil stockpile of Ampoules cuz they've been playing since forever whereas I have only been playing for two years and only recently started doing Einherjar. It comes with the territory is my opinion on the matter.

If you start with a disadvantage to everyone else it can deter new players because they are on uneven ground, and not easily catch up to the rest of players, leaving them felling left behind, and out of place.

Well, I can see where the person has a certain level of discomfort -- sure, many people can [and will] power through 1-99 in a matter of days, but for the newcomer who [by assumption] starts with no help, this is and probably continues to be a tasking disadvantage. I don't quite believe you should be getting a free pass to abyssea to 'get you started off', but I do believe you could use help. While I'm not precisely going to give you some directly, I can only suggest you try and find people to assist you in obtaining abyssites for more time per stone, better cruor enhancements, and stone renewal reduction [or, time to obtain a stone]. Starting off with those will dramatically increase your chances of bettering yourself in this realm. As for Voidwatch... well, you got me there, but I'm sure all the shiny cruor you'll make farming those abyssites will help you!

Hm, I do Abyssea on a daily basis, for hours, and I spend maybe 1~2 stones a week. Only need to spend them if we don't have time to make time. Maybe you should learn to be a better player and use the system rather than complain about a simple problem with a simple solution.

More gil than I have. Can't be too bad off.

Any job can cap out time. It requires the right abyssites and strong enough atmas to carry you through. BLM, SCH, and BLU are able to obtain high enough azure the fastest, but other jobs can build Azure through red chests if they build up their ruby and pearlescent some.
Edit: Okay, I guess I put my foot in my mouth a bit when I posted this. Upon talking about this further with my linkshell, it appears building azure is difficult via red chests. I've always found amber and pearl very easy to farm solo as BLM and assumed Azure would be the same. In any event, I apologize for the incorrect assumption that all jobs rock Abyssea like BLM.

I think new players should really focus on the game as a whole and not just voidwatch and abyssea only. Sure you will get to level 99 very fast now, but they should take advantage of that by finishing all the missions, doing the map quests, scroll quests, subjobs, other jobs, crafting etc.... This game is not just abyssea and voidwatch, every single day whenever you log, you can do MANY OTHER THINGS beside those two things. But it seems people are stuck in a rut and do not even want to do anything but, it is surprising to see many who have no idea that there are so many zones to explore and so many things to do beside abyssea.

You can go 1~99 in under a week if you have the time and help with LBs. You can get +1 BST gear in a week as well. Get Dyna access in another week or 2. By the end of month 1 you can be setup for Dyna. Everyday even with that BST you just made is at least 500k on a bad run. If you do it right you can make 1.5Mil but unlikely with only that gear, but you can build gear as you go since your goal is 5Mil & you have only 2 hours to make that .5~1.5Mil, the rest of your day can be spent on more gear. Then you can also work on your ToAU missions to get access to Salvage, once you get that you can run it as well, that should add up to another 500k~1Mil or more, your able to make that 5 Mil in only 2~3 days after all of that if you do it right and have good runs. All of this would take about 2 months at most, the other 3 you just stock up more and more money.

Ah, ha! You figured it out. No wonder he doesn't have time to do a few simple quests and kill a few mobs for time-extending and stone-replenishing abyssites. Problem solved.

The op has made a very good point, this game is currently all about abyssea and VW, The old content is dead and is a serious pain to go through. Too many people in this game seem to think just cause they had to do it the slow way everyone else should. I started playing this game on the US release and i'm from Europe and i decided to take war to 75 as my first job, that was when people though war's were gimped tanks at best and left me seeking party for 8 or 9 hours at a time before getting a group.
Do we really want new people to have to go through that just to make the rest of us feel they have suffered also?

There are 4+ story lines to work through that give you things like Rajas, Suppa, and Moonshade Earring. There are things to do that would benefit them that dont have to be aby, vw, aby, vw, aby, vw.
If all you have done is burn a character as fast as possible and are just chomping at the bit for, imho, the lamest content ever created that only functions to get you gear, then what can i say. The game takes patience, it's always been that way.

As someone who was a moron and didn't start the VW stone countdown until I came back, stop whining. Do campaign, get AN, use that AN for voiddust.

Sure is, assuming you completely ignore the 8 years worth of content that preceded it......
What is this "suffering" anyway? It's ridiculously easy now to get to a high enough level to complete nearly all of the old content solo, even COP no longer has level restrictions. Just because someone wants to skip over that entirely and ignore the collective 10 years of game content doesn't mean the end game systems are broken. If you choose to only engage in two things in the entire game and you run out of resources, that's really a you problem. There are ample other events partake in while your stones replenish.
Even people who played the whole time and had already consumed much of that content had to wait for stones to build up, big deal. Go do something else for a week and come back.

This new revamped way of playing is seriously way better than the old ways. Everything is made very accessible and you have several options on doing things. A lot of ridiculous non sensical time sink have been trimmed. Traveling is made faster. The problems with all the noobs and returning players are they are stuck in a rut that is abyssea and voidwatch and do not bother to do other things. There are neo dyna, nyzul, einherjar, limbus to do. You can still do the old salvage as well. BCNMs are more accessible too, and there are still the level capped one if you want challenge. You don't have to go to skill ups in abyssea, farm kindred seals while skilling up. SO MANY OPTIONS!!! But you need to READ, RESEARCH, and LEARN - there is no free ride in this game, put some little works.
I want to know where he got the 5m.
I agree on that one.
Also isn't it fair that older player have the resources to do the events without much difficulty because we have been playing longer? I would be upset if newer players didnt have to put effoet into things that i had to put effort into.....

Traverser stones are not a big problem. Learn how to TE, get TE, love it. You don't need someone to get magic kill shots to get azure, either.
Voidstones, on the other hand... kind of a problem now, especially since it doesn't look like we're going to get a 3rd KI to reduce the cooldown to 8 hours instead of 12, like we can with traverser stones... and unlike traverser stones, voidstones are kind of a requirement, not a luxury, for its associated activity. Yes, you can do campaign battle for a couple hours to get a set of 6 voiddusts (which will be gone in like, a maybe 30-minute average voidwatch session...), but I don't think the people who actually like doing campaign battle realize how many people there are who don't.
IMO it should have been possible to get the cooldown on voidstones down to 4 hours. That would be a set of 6 per day, which is the maximum capacity and is the amount that people usually do in a set of VWNM runs nowadays, anyway.
But since I'm doubting they will do that, I'm hoping they allow some sort of traverser stone -> voidstone conversion at some point. Most people have a 4-digit traverser stone stock nowadays whereas they are dried up on voidstones; we should be able to put the traverser stones to some kind of use.

They dont want people to spam VW all day long - unless you are willing to spend money. The way things are is fine, great to prevent major rush on voidwatch to ensure that people will still do this for a good 6-8 months.

Look at any of the new/revamped events. One of them you can solo/dual-box for the win.
Choose wisely.
