The help text for the spell Deodorize says "Lessons chance of being detected by smell," almost verbatim the text for Invisible and Sneak. Additionally, "Detects by smell" is an option for the auto-translator feature, much like "Detects low HP" and "Detects spellcasting."

However, nothing in the game has ever actually detected by smell. At best, some monsters track by smell.

The help text for Deodorize should be changed to reflect the difference from Sneak and Invisible, and the Auto-translate option could easily be replaced outright by something more useful, such as "Detects abilities."

I have always thought that deodorize should help against blood aggro in addition to preventing the tracking of creatures. I am one of the only people that I know that has ever used the spell successfully to prevent a creature from chasing me. I bound a creature, cast deodorize on myself, ran away, and the monster did not aggro me. Under normal circumstances, though, you are not going to get far enough away from a creature for the spell to be applied and for you to get away. It would be nice to see additional effects added to it to make it useful.

I agree that Deodorize is effectively useless (as is the Deodorizer item), but such talk gets categorized as "suggestions/feedback" by the GMs and is treated accordingly.

Rather, as things are right now, this is best described as a flaw in the in-game description text (at least for the spell; the item is vague enough), at least in English. The text describes a spell that functions in the same fashion as Sneak and Invisible, which it simply isn't; it doesn't avoid detection, it only has an affect after detection.

I agree. It's misleading for noobs.
