Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my little intro. I played for about a month in 08, long enough to get Summoner job and about 5 avatars. I quit because i had trouble getting groups and soloing as you all know back then was very hard to do. I am on carbuncle server and my wife accompanies me. We are looking for a kind and gentle hearted LS. I say this because we come from a very close knit family community in our previous MMO. I had joined the forums on ZAM and the folks there were very rude and unwelcoming so i am truly hoping this forum is different.

Most people on this game are very nice. Sometimes you get people on forums that are just rude that have long left but hang around forums that get their fix that way. Now for a LS, I am on the ragnarok server though and know of a LS that my friend runs. Welcomes new players, always has events going on. New and Old players always returning. A good social shell. Here is his LS page.

What do you mean by "hardcore"?

Maybe he means that time = difficulty :)
I wouldn't say the game is hard, but it does take a significant time investment, I guess. It takes dedication, but not an extreme amount of skill.

I mean both really. time consuming and difficult to master. In these older mmo's you almost have to study what you want and need to do. Back when the game was still new, it was pretty darn hard imo lol. They have made it more accessible but it still requires you to know what job to bring to the party. Games like WoW any class can blaze through a instance feeling like a god. These older games required more thought and patience, so i guess that's what i mean by hardcore. That and death penalties. I'm not sure, did they remove deleveling? I love your sig Mirage! Brawndo's got what plants crave! Oh btw, is carbuncle a low population server? I can't find a LS through forums, everyone telling me to go to another server =(

oh that reminds me, i fear skill chaining. i got to lvl 30 when i last played and could not get the hang of it for the life of me and people got piiiiiissed! I don't recall what it entails but ugh. i hope i can get it this time around lol.

Skillchaining isn't too integral anymore.

Skillchaining is fun, though, when you can get to do it (if nothing else, my Adventuring Fellow is awesome for that), and if one is to call this game "hardcore," they should at least familiarize themselves with what skillchaining is, since it's easily one of the deepest bits of gameplay this game really has to offer.

you can't deny this game is hardcore compared to the new gen games cmon, lol. And i had a brief rundown of skillchains in 08. As i said, i struggled with them then but i was still learning. Like Mirage said, they aren't as hard anymore. Many of those changes took place AFTER i played so ya, this "one" is sticking to his guns and maintaining that this game is indeed hardcore. I am looking forward to learning all about them soon.

Carby still has a big population, it's just that it is mostly weekend warriors. Unfortunately, the current state of the game has left so much solo/duoable, the grouping isn't as big as it once was--that appears to be an issue across most servers.
There's still some good shells out there, just might be hard to catch the leaders on as they may only play a few hours a night these days. Myself, I used to be on a lot(like 4 hours+ a day), but the new job has notched me back to about 10-12 hours a week now---@#$@#$ real life loves to get in the way sometimes. There's also an issue of a lot of people taking breaks because they simply got bored/frustrated with content. Some will hop on briefly after an update tweaks something, hang around for a bit if anything good is going on in their shell, get bored, and leave for a bit again.
SE really needs to do something to invigorate the playerbase again (like fixing VW or something)...SoA is just too far away.

Well they are as hard to do as before, but what I meant is that people generally don't bother with waiting for everyone to sync up to do them, because the time spent waiting can often reduce the damage output more than the extra SC damage would deal.
Generally, you either solo skillchain, or if you're lowmanning something with someone you can easily synchronize yourself with. If there are lots of people on a mob, chances are that two-man skillchains would get interrupted by a loose cannon who WSes in between you two.
