My wife and I have made a bunch of them. They don't seem to be anything special other than space savers, though Camate mentioned something about being strongly influenced by the weather: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/21426-Prism-Staff-%28name-pending%29?p=336403&viewfull=1#post336403
They also don't have staff specific stuff like -pdt, so you'll still be wanting to carry a terra staff around.

The GM didn't state the potency of magic attack + and magic accuracy +.
I'm betting that these where balanced. (Nerfed compared to HQ single element)
I forget what the HQ magic attack and magic bonus was for the HQ staves I think they was 30 and 15.. My guess is this staff is capped at 10 and 20. The extra effect brings it to the same power as a normal HQ if it's in the appropriate weather or a SCH weather effect exist. Likewise if the opposite weather effect exist it will do the same penalty as having the opposite staff equipped..

The GM didn't state the potency of magic attack + and magic accuracy +.He didn't really need to, the bonus is the same as that of the normal HQ or NQ elemental staves, but there is one slight difference...
According to some, the bonus on the Chatoyant and Iridian staff are additive not multiplicative, meaning it can actually underperform versus the equivalent elemental staff in certain circumstances. I haven't had the chance to get one myself (all of the synergy furnaces were swamped by crowds following the update), but hearing that news almost froze me in my tracks and made me reconsider.
If anyone with solid information on the staff can post about it, that would be gratefully received by many I'm sure.

From BG wiki:
"Iridescence" adds an additional 10% potency bonus to weather procs (weather multiplier becomes 1.2 vs 1.1 for single weather, when it procs).
Elemental obis will force the combined Iridescence/Weather proc.
Iridescence has no effect on day potency bonus.
Has the following hidden effects:
All elements: Magic Potency +15%
All elements: Magic Accuracy +15
All elements: Avatar and spirit perpetuation cost -3

Synergy furnaces in Jeuno were cramped, but not the ones in hometowns.
Managed to make a HQ for a LS member. They are a bit tricky to synergize, but having a 2nd person to use the safety lever and pressure valve to lower impurities and pressure helps a lot.

If nothing else, to me it was a nice surprise that I was able to make these with just 32 Synergy and 61 Woodworking!
At the moment though, the beads for the materials jumped from 10k to 100-200k (not surprising). Hopefully they'll settle back down again after the most enthusiastic people at tossing their Gil away, well, settle down. ^^;
Haven't been testing either, but I don't think they're exactly the ultimate, as stated above, it seems like they do lack some of the specifics (understandably so). But still, a very nice space saver for some!

Yeah this is the generic "go to" staff for most mage or caster jobs. It's definitely not stronger then the magian stave's, few players have a full set of 99 Magians though. Its more an inventory saver for the lessor used elements, BLMs should still be making a Thunder / Ice Magian stave.

On the bright side, the staff is incredibly simple to make, and most mages will already have their staves barring a few exceptions so it'll be cheap too.
Hopefully this will lead to less people using that godawful scythe. The damn thing is worse than NQ staves yet they're everywhere for some reason.
