Dear FFXI Team/Community Managers,

I just read the FFXIV director's 'Letter from the Director' and I have to say that every time I read his new letter I think about quitting XI for XIV because I love the way the team express themselves to the community, he even mentions regularly that he knows what the community wants and what he plans to do about it etc.

FFXI needs this kind of interaction with it's player base and I'd love to see this come from the FFXI team too.

Thank you for planning lots of new content and it's great to see so many wonderful changes coming to Vana'diel and the way we play the game - we'd also love to see the way you interact with us change too.

Thanks for reading!

Probably wouldn't recommend going to XIV just yet, as while they write a nice letter every few weeks, the games utter tosh right now.

I wouldn't say that XIV is tosh - it's really not.. but I just love this game and find it infuriating that we don't have any regular communication from the dev team directly.

yoshida is actually a big mmorpg gamer himself. He was a huge DAoC gamer, and looks up to (are i say) blizzard. He told his team to play other mmorpg to see how they do things and why players oh there like it.

As for ffxiv being "tosh" its really personal opinion. I enjoy the game, and can't wait for 2.0 tbh.. with some current conntent (raid dungeons) you see party cut scenes. One dungeon I did was called totorak, you see the party enter the dungeon then you get a "duty start" in flashy letters then do the dungeon. Once you complete the dungeon and the boss, you are treated with the typical FF victory cs. you see your party /cheer then loot the chest and ur teleported outside. If you join now you will only play a mnth tho.. by september they shutting the servers down for beta and switching the client and character data to the new one. ffxiv 2.0 should be out by dec-jan at the lastest.

I would love to have more insights into the FFXI team - perhaps even a regular feature like Nintendo's Iwata-Asks where someone could interview members of the FFXI team to ask them about their work, the processes involved etc. - with pictures!

Other MMOs do this - it's a shame that FFXI doesn't.

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP except the quitting part. What Yoshi-P does for FFXIV is what FFXI's new producer needs to also do with FFXI. Stay in touch with your players.

Maybe it's just me but I read the FFXIV letters as nothing more than pandering to the masses--which is a silly term to use considering the state of the FFXIV population. They have no choice but to release such letters, to reassure their populace that the game won't suck forever. The dev team for FFXI does a decent job of releasing info. They don't need to placate the masses as much as FFXIV does, hence no letters.

I think Yoshi-P is a pretty cool guy. Eh listens to players and doesnt afraid of anything.

Seriously though, if 2.0 is a success it'll be because Yoshi-P kept their dev team on the right track and away from all the player-torturing crap we put up with from the FFXI team. "JP onry" definitely isn't Yoshi-P's thing, either. The dude loves Blizzard and western games and is all about the international audience. Hell, they're bringing FFXIV to China of all places... though for reasons relating to FFXI that I'm sure we're all aware of, I don't think that's such a good idea.

Just to clarify - I think that XIV's letters perhaps has too much information in them and I actually agree with Tunasushi's comment about XI being fun when we had to find stuff out ourselves, but cryptic clues and hints provided by the dev team, comments on the roadmap, an inkling of knowing where the game is headed helps to make us all feel like we're in the loop.

I don't play this game because I want my hand held - but I do want to feel like I'm connecting with the playerbase and dev team that's all.

This.

We had a couple entries years ago with one of the design teams and effects department regarding CoP-era FFXI. With a new expansion being in the works, I'd love to read more about their zone building process, their workflow, how archaic their tools are due to legacy PS2 support, and etc.

I love 'behind the scenes' stuff in general. Concept art is fine and all, but it's just art. I like the nitty gritty details of the actual game construction.

Is it really that impossible to gold-farm in 14? idk, I thought every MMO had gil/goldfarmers.
