TEPCO's Nuclear reactors only provide a portion of Japan's overall power. Think the stat for Tokyo alone was like 30% or something. They're in the process of pulling more power from the mainland to offset the reduction in capacity. Think someone posted in another thread that Russia was building to provide like 6 MW, and GE is <supposed> to be sending about 600MW via 10 truck mounted gas turbine generators to help fill in gaps as well.

Last I heard their consumption with the rolling blackouts for Tokyo had been estimated at 38MW during peak times, 33MW in off-peak times (think that was TEPCO's power, a bit fuzzy on that). They were only having trouble sustaining the power for the peak time frame with the current schedule.

That's getting pretty close to managable under the circumstances. If they can get some extra power pumped in there, hopefully it turns around enough to start cutting back on the blackouts.

This is just a guess on my part, but with watching the slow progress on cooling the reactors, and the additional generators GE is supplying, I predict to see the servers back up on Wednesday the 23rd. No, I have no evidence to support this, it is just a guess on my part by how things are progressing. Oh and its also the day my mom is coming to visit for 2 weeks, so I wont have much time to play while she is here, so of course they will be back when I cant play:p

From what I understand, the shutdown of the servers was a voluntary action made by SE, in order to cooperate with the efforts of TEPCO. No one ordered SE to take them offline, this isn't some government shutdown. I honestly believe that they will get the servers up and running as soon as the national power issue is even remotely stable, even if SE ends up having to pay a much larger bill for the electricity.

they were "advised" to conserve power--that could have been a polite spin on things. My impression is they were advised of a pending threat of more instability in the grid (they had been having some intermittent brown outs already), looked more closely at the situation and ultimately decided shutting down was the more responsible thing to do--either for themselves, the community, or both.

I was online when the announcement first came out. Within roughly an hour or less (was spamming colibri for magian trial) it went from more or less "we might have to take the servers down temporarily" to "we will be taking the servers down soon, but not sure just when", to "we will be shutting the servers down in 1.75 hours for an unkown timeframe, but it will be at least a week".

Whether they were gently advised, or pushed to do it...they had some timeframe of deliberation prior to shutting down. so they apperently had an assessment that set off some red flags for them one way or another. Now we just need to wait for it to go back to a green flag so they can go back online. We were not consulted concerning the shutdown...it was done for reasons probly not concerning us past the point of securing our data.

Likewise...I don't expect our urging them to get them back up ASAP is going to have that much of an impact. I'm sure they are getting enough heat to do so through their usual channels...Stockholders, Accountants, hourly employees that may not be on the clock while things are down...I imagine there's already a fire or two under their buts to find a way to get the revenue stream going again somehow.

However, the measure only applied to big corporate users, and it was only for 150,000 to 200,000 Kilowatts. Today they are talking an approx. 10 MIL KW!!! So if back in 2007 it took TEPCO 22 months to put Kashiwazaki plant back online...I'd even say whoever is looking forward towards End of April FFXI comeback is an "optimist"...No...more of a day dreamer

You dont think a big company like SE has a plan b? No big corp. would want to take any kind of a profit cut for that long. Think about this as if you owned the company, You are going to do whatever it takes to get your product back and running asap. True Rocman, I can't but agree more with you. BUT again when its business, its all about figures and turnover. So if SE/FFXI users outside Japan does not cover the relocation of services, then it will not be an option. Besides, if we are to think about the fair play policy of SE lol, that option wouldn't be fair to ower fellow Japanese player who would still be suspended untill Japan can stand back up on its feet.

Regardless, two, three or four months... that was just a technical reply to those hoping to the original post and the speculations. Between the game and a whole country that slept to wake up on such a calamitous disaster!!! I'd say who cares about the game.

People seem to forget, that only the eastern bit of Japan was affected. I don't think they can just walk into the building, and all work together to lift a machine and move it to another location. But I assume they'll find a way and go out far enough so that they will be able to resume buisness, or even have the servers in California primed for gameplay. While they want to help their country, how much else will they be able to donate if they start to rot because the games are turned off? And with other countries hurrily trying to move in things to help with the power shortage and to repair the cooling systems for the reactors so that we all don't die from radiation? Things will be done as quickly as they can without too much risk.

Um its not a FACT until SE tells us they wont be able to bring the servers up for 2 months.. until official word is heard its SPECULATION.. japan also needs to keep there economy going as best they can you know.

Komori... its not only about the cities which were affected by the quake and/or the tsunami, its ~40% of the nations power supply which is being provided by TEPCO. And yes relocating services isn't that easy like moving appartment but its not that hard also.
