I just recieved this email from SE. The post that is in question had EXACTLY one line in it. Now can someone, please tell me what is so HORRIBLY wrong with post that I deserve to be threatened to be banned from posting here?
I am posting this, though I know it will not last long because SE will forcibly put down anyone with banning them that speaks out against them. Here is an exact copy of the email, and proof that SE needs to stop swinging the banhammer like it's cool.
ear Customer,
We have determined that the post you made on 03-17-2011 04:37 PM (PDT) was in violation of the User Agreement policies listed below. The post was edited or deleted accordingly.
Unfortunately, we needed to delete one of your posts in the thread "Can we have an update on the situation" due to it being inflammatory and non-constructive. The post is as follows-
Was that supposed to be wit? FAIL.

Assuming they are not lying when they say it went against the User Agreement, they are completely justified.
Granted, you may not agree with their rules, but you accept them when you post here.
You probably got the email because
Was that supposed to be wit? FAIL. offered absolutely nothing to anything at all. It is taken as flame bait and trolling. Just look at Blizzard's MMO's forums; full of trolls and 70% non-constructive anythings, at least the old forums were, I have yet to check the new ones. I doubt SE wants that on their forums.

That disclaimer has been there since you registered for the forums and has already been addressed by GMs in another thread about censorship days ago.[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).] All post deletions and modifications are paired with an Email with that disclaimer in it. It doesn't mean "Say Fail again and we'll ban you", it means "knock it off and we are reminding you that we can ban you [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]."

I understand that I accepted the rules when I came into this forum but here's the point that was trying to be made here. People can tell people to go die in a fire, make racial sexual slurs on these forums..... and I am threatened to be banned because I thought someone's post wasn't funny.
There are no swear words in my post. No racial slurs, no ethnic bashing, no sexual references. And yet I see people STILL posting on here that I have read posts where they have commmited that and they are STILL posting on here?
Give me a break SE, go after the real troublemakers and stop harassing the ones that are talking sense on these forums but in a respectful manner.

They send that message any time they delete or edit a post. As far as I know, it's just a warning, and you'd probably have to post something a lot worse than a rude comment or something to get banned from both the forum and playonline.

You have may very well posted your comment by violating any one of these:
Please try to maintain a polite manner and review your entry before you post.
Please show respect and consideration to other users.
If a post includes any of the following violations, we reserve the right to take action including, but not limited to, editing/deleting/locking/moving the content without notice, restricting your forum usage, temporarily suspending either your FINAL FANTASY XI Account or Square Enix Account, or permanently banning either your FINAL FANTASY XI Service Account or Square Enix Account.
-Posting that constitutes discrimination against another forum member or group (also including forming groups for the purpose of discrimination), insults, slander, libel, harassment of a group or individual.
-Posting aimed to create a negative impact on the community or its members
You have to be careful, especially if you're joking, and think before your post. This goes for RL too. You wouldn't tell an imbecile he's an idiot when he has the power to snap you in two. SE has the banhammer, and has shown they are not afraid to use it.

They could deal with minor flames with a light tap on the shoulder (e.g. posting in the thread to say don't do that, or just editing naughty words out of a post instead of deleting it) instead of just deleting them and sending you a scary email.

It takes a child to complain about childish things. That being said, this thread in itself is also a tattle by nature. So this is kind of a hypocrasy.

I don't see the point for complaining. Offering nothing and openly insulting someone contributes nothing to any thread anywhere, yet you're defending your ability to effectively spam posts with no repercussions?
I don't understand. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. They teach you this in kindergarten. What's the problem, exactly?

LOL...all those really did was collapse the post so you didn't see it. Useful for trying to hide the flamewars, but not much else. Would be nice if we had that option here I guess...but it would probly get abused here just like it does everywhere else. So the only way to try to reign things in here is for the Moderators to delete/lock things I guess.
But seriously... I would think someone would have to be spamming the N word with reckless abandon to be worthy of reporting them... who knows why it happened. Maybe someone is just getting a little happy with the edit tools.

Ok granted that according to the terms of use, what I said was a violation. I will agree with that. But what angers me is the fact that in the realms of it being an insult, it was extremely minor. Not even worth SE tossing me an email threatening me, they could have just removed the post. I don't think it's necessary to threaten people everytime they remove or edit a post on these forums.

Truthfully, if your post was simply deleted without a word, wouldn't we just have this thread saying instead "OMG SE IS CENSORING OUR POSTS IF WE SAY SOMETHING THEY DON'T LIKE WATCH OUT?" So far a lot of this seems to be victimized "SE was mean to me personally" instead of "The TOS says not to troll."
You appear to feel singled out and are upset by this.

Then un-automate it, or revamp the way it's worded so people don't freak out thinking their accounts are going to be banned for posting on a forum!. Again, if you look at the original post, it's not SO INTENSE that SE needs to make a threat towards me imo.

Lol, there is an "option" to collapse posts... in a way that is.. Click on player name >> Player Profile >> Add to ignore list.
It Collapses all posts by that user, but still allows you to uncollapse the post (and not take them off ignore list) and see what they have posted elsewhere. ^^

That post does seem like it contributes nothing and looks like it's demeaning someone else. Part of the forum's rules/guidelines is to show respect to other people's posting or something similar to that, and that some people may feel more hurt than you may think to something offensive that you post.
Don't forget, this is a professional company forum even if it is about a video game. This is not a random forum that a fan/player creates. As such I'm sure SE wants posts to be kept professionally fun with a positive attitude and environment. So for those who enjoy to troll others, then this place may not be for you to post your silly trolling posts. If you enjoy to troll people, then there's a few other forums out there that are fan made that you can troll on.
I'm sorry to have to say that but it needs to get out there for people who disrespects others in this forum. I'm making this as a general statement, not to the OP specifically, yet that post looks like it could be putting down someone elses posts without any proper opinion or formal argument.

Get over it. All this thread's going to do is rile up some pseudo-internet-hysteria so the mods have to come in and lock it as they sigh to themselves and slam their heads into brick walls a few times. I do not envy those guys.

True, but before that we can hopefully show SE that not all of us are afraid of own shadows or won't take responsibility for our own actions. Throwing a fit (and starting a thread) because you flamed someone and SE yelled at you is definitely not something the vast majority of us would do.

Well I guess it depends on the moderator who made the decision. They very well could of just deleted the post and that would have been the end of it. Mod's are human too. He/she is doing her job, but made a mistake as he/she did it. But nevertheless, be courteous, even if the moron you want to bash is a complete moron. Constructed criticism leads to better outcomes.

Well, I certainly didn't report it and judging by that post alone (even though it was entirely void of substance) it does seem a bit harsh to catch a warning for that...but as a poster in general I can't say that the forum wouldn't be better off without you.
For instance, I'd vote to ban you just based on this thread alone.

Eh I'm sure they know. The GM community is fairly active reading these forums. Heck, it's pretty much all they have to do at the moment with the servers down. I've seen threads started and locked down in under 10 minutes, and in general they seem to have a fairly good eye for catching things. I can only imagine how tempting it must be to reply to the countless "GMs need to step in and ban everyone who's mean to me" posts/threads. When someone's actually insulting, they have posts removed. When people actually flame, they are given 3hr forum bans (this has happened to people I know, and they deserved it).
RAIST

eh.. it's the same with the scripts the GM's use. I used to get them all them time back when I used to farm Golden Bat. I would track ToD and log in/out to kill it and got constantly reported for being haxor. Guess it's just more efficient to have a one-size-fits-all response so there's consistency for the old CYA routine.

I'm sorry to have to say that but...
But nothing. I'm sorry, I was in a fan-based forum that became nothing but flaming back and forth, and that community slowly died away because they were tired of coming into a forum that is nothing but constant bickering at the topic then to any of the users who said anything in that thread. That's not a happy way to see something die.

It's ridiculous to even see an email with a line in it stating I could possibly be banned for something as ridiculously miniscule as this. Your whole post breaks down to "SE was mean to me and erased my blatant troll post for violating TOS." How are you defending yourself?
