Greetings,

First let me apologize for the amount of time it has taken us to post a more comprehensive acknowledgement of the Destrier Beret redemption problem that players are running into.

I wanted to take a moment to refer everyone to the recently posted announcement and to assure you we are working to solve this problem as quickly as possible.



We have identified an issue that is preventing players from receiving the Destrier Beret from the Festive Moogle, despite having registered a campaign code via the Square Enix Account Management System.

We are currently in the process of testing fixes to address this issue.

Please note that any campaign codes that have already been redeemed will not be invalidated, and will be redeemable once this issue has been resolved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Once again, apologies for the delay in getting this information out to all of you and we appreciate your patience while we work to address the problem.

Does this mean we will have to reassign our Beret after it is fixed? or does it mean we will be able to pick it up on the assigned characters once it's fixed? I wouldn't mind changing which character it is assigned to since I decided not to play one of the characters I originally gave it to.

I don't think this item is tranferrable between characters on your account... So that's actually a good question, I'm curious to see the answer for this.

Thanks for the official acknowledgment of the problem. The boilerplate responses kept linking to the main PlayOnline site which had no relevant information on this particular issue.

I was told that there wasn't an ETA on when they will have a solution. That was when I originally called SE support, so I can imagine it's going to take a while.

Seriously though, this is a terrible way to treat new players (or returning players who have had to repurchase the game.) I really do think they should compensate the players who have waited so long for a promotional item they were promised when they purchased the game.

i made a post like that not long ago saying they should either send the cap via mail in game or atleast give items to players who didnt get their caps that would give the same buffs until they can fix the issue. As it is were not getting anything. lack of customer service much.

This doesn't give me a lot of faith in the support this game receives. Is this the same kind of non-response I can expect with every issue that comes up?

I understand that things break, and I understand that it takes time to fix them, but the incredible lack of information on this is kind of frustrating. From the posts I have read by them, I'm not even 100% certain that I will get another working code, or if the one I have will be reset, or if I am just SOL.

I know it's just a silly hat, and I can play the game without it, but it was also one of the things I bought; with my money. And the principle of that matters far more to me than any digital hat does. The handful of dealings I have had or read with actual GMs have seemed very robotic and uncaring towards their players concerns.

It makes me question if this game is worth putting more money into or if I should just let my 30 days slip by and forget it.

ya it is! i did this all 4 years ago and had to redo it since they switched to square enix. Then i had to do it again for my wife. I wish they could just do away with playonline and make a normal game launcher. It literally took me 2 days to set us both up, between checking forum responses and downloading. It was just way more than it needed to be. Worth the trouble imo, but it can most certainly drive away the newcomers!

Yeah Just to let everyone know patch came no fix for us. I have already hit level 30 and am now looking forward to leveling up some subjobs....would be helpful..ya know.

Agreed. This gives a very bad image to potential friends who want to join... I don't understand why there was no official announcement before, it's been a month that threads have been made even here.

Its going on Week 3 now, and I had high hope with the patch coming out today. Still nothing. No reimbursement, no hat sent in game, nothing. This gives a very very poor image to SE. "Come back and play and get a free hat to level up... JK, thanks for paying for the game and a subscription!"

The patch went through today. I am not able to get the hat from the Festive Moogle. Nor am I able to reenter the redemption code (Already been used).
Maybe it would have been a good idea to delay the patch a few days to resolve a known issue?
The hat baited me into buying this game on Steam. I don't want the low level grind.

And now my free month is wasting away. If this doesn't get resolved in the next few days, I'm going to be issuing a formal complaint to attempt to get this game removed from my Steam account and credited for the cost of the bundle.

I have heard of several people who have gotten the Beret in the past month to present. I thought maybe it was only Amazon keys at first, then a lot of people said Steam keys didn't work either. I think the cause is a weird bug that only effects some people seemingly random and is why it's taking so long to fix.

I think there are two issues here.

First, that there is an issue delivering the Berets to those who should receive them.

And two, that those who write in about the issue aren't, or don't seem to be, given the item, but are simply told they must wait for the fix.

If there are so many instances of this that it cannot be managed at all for those who are writing in, because of the volume, then it seems as though a better solution should be addressed quickly, even if it is only a temporary fix. If the number of cases is small, then the issue should be looked into, of course, but those who are experiencing it shouldn't be forced to wait for something they've been promised.

Just a quick note, I brought 2 FFXI off stream one account for my sister and one for me and my sister got the beret but not me.

There is no official advice other than wait, but you can post in a new thread in this sub-forum to have them "Add you to the investigation".

Interesting... Just some questions out of curiosity:

1. Did you both already have Square Enix accounts?
2. Did you both have other Playonline IDs associated with the SE accounts?
3. Were the character names of the recipient the same as a previous recipient of the Destrier Beret but perhaps a different world?

Or any other differences that you can think of between yourself and your sister regarding the game?

This entire thing is ridiculous. Destrier Berets were given out to the people who should get them, and everything was working fine. Then SE decided to "fix" this, with a patch on the 27th of June.


- The method for receiving items from the Festive Moogle have changed.

Old Method:
Registering a reward code will add 8 pieces of the item tied to that code into the option list. The player will then be able to select and receive them arbitrarily.

New Method:
One item per reward code will be added into the option list in the order the codes are registered. The player can receive the items they have redeemed one at a time by talking to the Festive Moogle. They must speak to the Festive Moogle again in order to receive subsequent items they have redeemed.
Except New Method should actually read: Hahahaha! You aren't getting the item! Seriously, if it isn't broke, don't fix it! Why why WHY would SE feel the need to do this? And how could they botch the whole thing so badly?

-_- No hats for myself or my wife. I'm a returning FFXI player from years ago, but she is a WoW veteran. Without these hats, it's unlikely this game will keep her interest. (way too slow for people who only know current MMOs)

Current Known Issues (Jul. 13): Follow-up

During the past month, players were unable to receive the Destrier Beret from the Festive Moogle, despite having registered a campaign code via the Square Enix Account Management System.

We are happy to announce that the issue has been resolved at 0:00 on Jul. 26, 2012 (PDT).

New players will be able to receive the Destrier Beret from the Festive Moogle by following the normal steps for campaign code registration. Players who have already redeemed their codes will be able to receive the item by speaking to the Festive Moogle.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused and thank you for your patience.

Hey guys, I made a thread yesterday about still not being able to get the Beret after the fix, but I tried again today and I was able to get it! Just wanted to let you know to keep trying, it might take a day or two but you might get them soon!

I will be petitioning Steam for a refund due to false advertising.

Nine days of waiting for something that should have come with my initial purchase. It was also the reason for the purchase. The low level game is changed completely by this item.

1) Log in to Account Services
2) Select Service below the "Services and Options" header on the left.
3) Select FFXI.
4) Select "Add a service account"
5) Enter your code
6) Pick the account and character
7) Visit the Festive Moogle in game to claim your reward.
* Port Bastok (J-13)
* Port Sandy (J-10)
* Windy Walls (C-14)

There are several steps there that are easy to miss (like not turning off NoScript, expecting the beret to be in your D-box, and not being able to figure out that "Add a service account" actually means "Redeem my reward code.")

Have you all done this?

Absolutely. I've assigned the code to the character I'm requesting the item. I'm trying Windurst Walls for the Festive Moogle.
And that moogle says he has nothing for me.

Of course. Mooglestolemyberet! Reviewing reward codes show the code as entered and used on the correct character, trying to input it again tells me the code has been using, but the moogle says he's got nothing. Bastard. Again, wish they'd never "fixed" this.

I called square enix and they confirmed that I have correctly applied the Beret code to my main character (only have one) and still nothing. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING SE!!

My friend was able to get her hat right after the patch where as I am still waiting. She entered her code before the patch like I did which was about...2 weeks ago. I entered my code about a day before her. So I'm still waiting.

I've got the same problem. Registered the code for the item before the patch (23rd July) but the Festive Moogle is still telling me that he has nothing for me.

It's not a game-ruining experience or anything, but it's an item that was promised to me upon purchase of the game. As a low-level adventurer the buffs would be quite handy. :/

UPDATE: 7/30/12

I called support today after the announcement the problem has been fixed and asked the operator about it, he told me there still isn't an ETA and that the problem is still an active one. Right now it's an issue of the customer's patience, whether we are willing to make a big deal about a small pivotal item.

Uh for paying it yea I am going make a big deal. Starting completely fresh in this game is not an easy task and many of us returned to the game with completely blank slates expecting to have some help out. SE needs to compensate us for the money we payed.

I started out fresh with you a few weeks ago, while juggling my time with work and FFXIV (my primary game), I've managed to level to the point where the Beret isn't useful for me. Of course I would have loved to have the item while leveling, but ideally that wasn't possible due to SE having issues with this.

But some people plan on taking a lot (if not all) jobs past level 30. I've taken 2 jobs past the use of the Beret so far since starting a week and a half ago, and I plan on leveling many more.

If nothing else it would be nice to have a bit more feedback from Squenix about how they're getting along with a fix. Even if there isn't an ETA it'd be nice from a paying customer point of view to know that they're actually working on a fix.

It's already embarrassing that they announced a fix that didn't work.

This definitely wasn't fixed on the 26th, maybe you should start issuing refunds, I've been waiting a month.

Well I think the patch did fix it, just not for people who already entered the codes. My friend entered his code yesterday and it worked fine. Not sure how half the problem can be fixed whilst half of it isn't, though. Seems kinda like our codes are stuck in a pipeline or something. :/

Wouldn't it be possible to just send the hats out manually to people who ask on here until the problem is sorted out? Or to revoke the codes already entered and issue new ones?

I'm currently trying not to level up too much 'cos I'd like to use that on my current job class before getting to level 30. Don't really want to start levelling other jobs yet... Sort of boring killing low level monsters for no EXP for the extremely slim chance that they might drop a treasure chest that doesn't contain a useless temporary item.

I've been waiting since July 8th, still no hat, still crap support on the issue, and that leave me with SE doesn't really care about the issue. If they had their fix would have worked. So the game time I have is set to renew by Tuesday next week, I will not pay a company anymore then I have for poor support.

I left this game the first time cause it was slow progression, now I leave due to false advertising and poor support.

Even if it's not to announce a fix, just being here to listen to customers and answer some questions could mean the difference between customers gained and customers deciding not to renew their subscriptions.

Upon noticing that the Destrier Beret is RARE-EX, why don't they just reset all codes that have already been redeemed? Sure someone who already has their Beret could apply their code to a second character, but... is that really such a big deal if it gets the rest of us our one single Beret?

My wife and I have been waiting nearly 20 days now.
We have tried the festive moogles in all three cities at this point.

I very much agree with the fixes that Zerch is recommending. There are good ideas in these forums. I hope we can see some real action on this issue soon.

You have to remember that this problem only came about when SE changed how hats were given out. Previously you could get 8 hats per account. This was apparently a bad thing, and SE changed it in a patch so that you now had to select a character when inputting code, and then could only get it on that hat. And of course they fubar'ed the whole thing, and lots of people couldn't get the damn hats. And still can't.

Main thing here is, they wanted to reduce the number of hats being given out. They're not gonna do anything that might potentially give out even a single extra hat. Why not? Because they're stuck on what they WANTED to do, and think public relations = SE telling people how things are and screw any feedback.

Really annoyed by this Beret situation. I've been waiting since July 17. My husband got his, though. Why isn't it obvious to SE that the codes are bad? Just issue new ones.

Really annoyed by this Beret situation. I've been waiting since July 17. My husband got his, though. Why isn't it obvious to SE that the codes are bad? Just issue new ones.

Same thing happened to me. My wife got hers and I didn't get mine. As far as I know they haven't even made any real acknowledgement that there is still an issue with a number of players.
The fact that nothing has been done makes me feel unappreciated as a customer. Each year there's more and more MMOs popping up out there. Maybe it's just time to look into my options.

It seems like our concerns are being ignored for the most part, at least acknowledge that we haven't been delivered something that we paid for. Very frustrating for me to call support and then be apologized to countless times and ask that I be patient... I'm hard pressed to say this but if this was XIV they would at least told you you couldn't redeem your item by now, that's what I want is a straight forward answer... Not an apology. I doubt this will reach the proper ears though.

I'm going to give up on getting that stupid item and just focus on leveling up my end game stuff. Would have been nice to had if I had it.

Something tells me this issue will be resolved right as my free month is up. It looks like such a fine little hat. And my head is so cold. Square-Enix does not care about clothing my head. My gf was able to claim hers the day after the patch and got hers, I entered mine before the path and I was unable to claim it in game, and am still unable to claim it in game.

I've been unable to get the beret, It's been a month, and so far, I'm on my second genkai quest and I have four classes past 30 now...

Some of my old friends were using the hat and bragging about how much help it was in lower levels and how it can really help.

Only about 2 of my weapon skills aren't past the level 30 cap, so that weapon skill bonus won't work for me much until I do katanas and throwing... (unless it works on magic, definately need that!)

I seriously can't believe the lack of resolution to this issue. This is one of the worst cases of ignoring the customer that I've ever seen. I wanted the hat that I was promised I would get upon buying the game. Thanks for completely killing the magic of returning to the game with a nice little item to make the doldrums of the low level game faster. This is unacceptable. Not even a single post from anyone "in the know" for how long now? I'm seriously dumbfounded by the stonewall of information.

Have I mentioned I'm flabbergasted by this? The hat is never coming to us - what they're telling us by not saying anything is "lay down another 20 dollars and you can get the hat we promised you the first time."

I do realize it's kind of petty for me to say this "ruined" the game for me - it's more the lack of updates/information despite the constant reminder that this problem PERSISTS that has turned me off.

Don't worry, Seekers of Adoulin is out soon with two new jobs. I'm sure Squenix would love you to pay for that just in time to use your Destrier Beret!

Or you could always pay for a second character!

I'm sure if we all say we'll throw money at them to fix the problem faster then the problem will get fixed faster.

Seriously. The sound of silence is what is killing me, because it gives the faintest sliver of hope that maybe every evening when I check that stupid Moogle will have something for me. If they just said "not going to happen," I would be miffed, but I would suck it up and continue on.

Thanks to the person that let me know even buying a second copy of the game would just be a waste. I would hate to have had my words inspire someone to actually try that out, and I didn't know but it makes sense that it wouldn't work with the same character.

Been checking the moogle every couple of days for the past month. Already on the "list".
There have been a few people who reported getting hats after they had issues a few weeks ago, but I haven't seen anything on these forums that resembled hope recently.

Anyone actually have a resolved case resently?

That's what I did, but it wasn't a "waste" since I didn't use the same character. I think it's just the Steam version that's broken now... the one that was on sale. Immediately after they said they "fixed" the issue, when I noticed they didn't fix it for me, I decided I was tired of waiting and bought another game from them directly, from which the code did work (on another character of course).

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, as it's a real waste of money, but I am glad I did it back then... seeing as how they still never fixed the issue and my other character still doesn't have the beret. I was starting fresh anyways, so all I really lost out on was the 75% off Steam sale price.

Has anyone ever somehow lost or had to have an item restored in game? What was the timeframe on getting that done? I don't see why they couldn't take the list of people they have gathered and just manually toss them a hat? I'm going to retire from complaining about the hat but I will be checking back just to see if they ever resolve it.

I am deactivating today because of the lack of care about this issue. I would give anything for more people to post that they are joining me. My main is so far past 30 that I'm looking for people to help me with the lvl 60 limit break quest, but it's the principal. I don't know if I could cite a more blatant disregard for a consumer base than this if I tried. I would say the recent Diablo III debacle, but even mighty Blizzard caved to consumer demands and is attempting to fix its game. It's sad to me that this thread is based of an apology posted what, almost 2 months ago? Give me a break. There have been a multitude of workarounds proposed in this thread (I say workaround rather than fixes because when I suggested to an SE rep that they delete my key and give me a new one they responded with 'that is not a fix.') The game growth is dying. It will be completely dead after the relaunch of FFXIV, the xpac for WOW, and the "relaunch" of Diablo III with the new patch. The people that have kept their subs alive will continue to do so, but it is obvious SE has no desire to cater to any new players. It's a shame, though, because people were looking at this game as something fresh despite its age. Thanks, SE, for failing yet again to give a sh** about your customers.

I just got mine from GM Xophious on Cerberus.

I think the moogle is fubar'ed, so if you haven't gotten it make sure your name was on the investigation list and play for a bit so the GMs will get around to giving it to you. I had been playing for a few hours, so don't expect them to be waiting to spring on you right when you log to throw the hat at you.

As foretold, the issue is resolved as my trial month expires. At least people are getting their hats now. Would be nice if I knew I had one waiting for me when I decide to re-subscribe but since they're handing them off personally I guess I'll miss out on it...again. It seems to only be the people who put in the code earlier who had their beret fall down a dark digital sewer that SE is still trying to fish it out of.

So a GM contacted me just now in regards to receiving the Destrier Beret.

But here's the funny part. For some reason he was under the impression that my main character on my main account (the one that's visible when posting) was the one eligible for receiving the item. Which strikes me as odd, because in the 2 posts that I made on this forum, both times I mentioned the name of the character involved (Nyanstix, in this particular case) and 1 message that I sent to the Support Center as advised by Jhanaka.

Both cases I explicitly stated that the character which is required to receive the Beret is Nyanstix on Quetzacoatl.

I mean, I appreciate the fact that I'm finally contacted, even after I received a mail back from the Support Center telling me that they can not provide support for this via Email and that I'd need to call or chat with them. But seriously, how can the wrong character get added to the list?

I also had problems redeeming my beret, I've been away from the game for a while so I haven't have a chance to contact a GM until now. After contacting the Support Center I was told to contact an in-game GM, who told me I could not receive the beret any more because of the order in which I redeemed the code.

The problem is that I redeemed the code on this account in the exact same way that I did on my other account, where I had no problems retrieving the beret since it was before the redemption issues started.

Even though the GM confirmed the code is valid I could not receive the beret. Not really sure where to go from here, any ideas?
