Auction house 2.0:
easy way be add 21 slots right away, but lets get creative.
A:First keep auction house(ah) the same with 7 items.
a1:New thing add a new npc near all the AH , but only be one time use items like medic stuff, ninja tools, pet items, food stuff , crafting ingredients, ...ect. Example name of the npc be like "more sell+" and can have 0-7 items in it even if you have the main 7 items on AH or less on the main ah for sell so can now have possible 14 items for sell, and this only works on one main square account you get to chose it on square website to activate it and not on more then 1 account and will be free.
b:New thing add another 7 slots to the AH for gear and armor that are under lv75 and be quested and start npc and be the one that helps new players out and have big help you above there head so they cant miss it,
b1:first part once the talk to him and old players will need do this get signet from gate guard and it tell you <pos> were there at, next thing need kill one enemy outside the gate to weak ok then tell you the <pos> to a AH, then you need talk to a AH person. Then get a key item that allows you to warp from the outpost guy and tells you area and <pos> to sandy, windy, bastok and jueno. and need talk to a npc at there AH. Then go to a new npc and tell them the <pos> in port jueno that will teleport back to home country for free first time afterwords cost 250 ground of valors tabs. Then for final part tell them were to get maps from the npc and <pos> for last key item and get access to 7 more items in the AH but those 7 slots are level restricted to lv 75. limited to one square account character.
c: Since square do not want lose money for 1$ extra a month can skip b1 part and get the 7 slots extra and can sell any thing with it and skip the quest if activate it on there square account. so do not need transfer mules. Only on one square account.

B:Mentor 2.0
a: need to be lv99 to activate it .
b:every time you help a person get a main title in the game you will get 1 point. limited to 5 points for same title for the week.
c:You can use the points get some stuff, example if get 10 pts can use them to get 1 seal of your choice. 25 pts get choose one empy leg of choice not +1's , 50 get chose one empy feet choice not +1, and 100 get chose from a list of the abyssites. There alot they could do with this to get people to help people instead of soloing gear and have them meet new people and stuff.

C:Make sure everyone has access easy to the new area town. nothing more frustrating then see all your friends there and what not sitting there and you cant get there.

Extra : point why can't we in this day and age actually enjoy this game with other ff11 fans from other servers with out some lame we got to pay 25$ so can join them. At least give us some instances were we can join with people from around the ffx11 world. Like maybe have the bcnm type fights were we can have choice join a random one and if 6 people from all servers doing the fight and selected it , got one minute join the fight and in the public match like ever other mmo now days, turns off leader controll, if dc can go back , if they kill it they need wait 3 min if dont get back in time then the lots goes on to those that lotted on it.

Just a quick comment on the Mentor part: I think volunteer helping for rewards never worked well, and as such, I wouldn't like such a system even though I have been a Mentor for years myself. I always help when I can; I tend to do that in all games I play, and it is certainly not for any reward's sake. ^^;

Yea I have help hundreds over the yrs and cost me alot time and got nothing for it , yea met friends over the years and 90% them screwed me over ,but in time they disappear,
Im not sure on your server , but here it takes a act of god just to find someone to help you just to get a abyssea boss clear anymore. most of the old mission can be soloed, but 90% stuff now days from abyssea to the past is soloable once you got stuff set up and no one is willing to help the people that are just starting off or they just came back to late and they missed the boat. It super Rare to even find a VW t1-4 anymore so there all screwed to. Main reason saying the mentor 2.0 is just there is a lack of help anymore, either in a linkshell that cares, got friends or your out of luck.

Like one buddy once said "why should I waste hours helping people when i get no gain , when i can work on my own stuff and I caught the boat ride".

Our reward is knowing there is 1 less person in the world needing help, but with no one who cares about helping them.

Like one buddy once said "why should I waste hours helping people when i get no gain , when i can work on my own stuff and I caught the boat ride".

i can reply that for ya

1) its the right thing to do
2) Its your duty as a vet of said mmo.

I see that all the time and I want to just slap the person saying it. Crying that you didn't get help back is not why you help others out. It is your duty as a vet to help the newbies so we can have (sorry for this) less stupid players. If the vets of 02 helped all you guys out, we wouldn't have this lvling mess we have now. We wouldn't have this community mantality we have now.

Being a hero is a thankless act, helping someone out is a thankless act.

I help ppl all the time, idc for reward, or help back. I rather they pay it forward and help someone else one day.

MMo' communities today are way too reward centric, and no longer work together as a community. Getting help shouldn't be pulling teeth. Even if its just replying a simple question.

we was all newbies once

It's definitely true that there should be more incentive to being a Mentor, and helping in general, but usually rewarding with in-game items can go bad, and likely the reason it's not being done everywhere.

There should be something, but I don't have any good ideas of what it could, or should be.
Perhaps something like this could work in FFXI, if done right, but I have my doubts. It is good as an idea, but probably difficult to make real due to these reasons.

The 'best' help tends to come from a source that is not looking for a reward (I think). ^^;

thats pretty much try. all ppl will do is force help others for theor rewards, then stop helping once they got all of them. And all it serves is to encourage the reward centric mantality.

worst this i had experienced in an LS.... I was lvling and hit 25, i was bored and asked for help with 2-3 dragon. All i got was "that fight is so benethe me, but if u need abby stuff i can help" "i helped over 1K ppl on that fight w/o a ty"

One of my rules:

"Always pay it Forward" People helped me to get where I am in the game, so I try to help when I have the time.

-Some of the problems stem from the time commitment. Especially CoP. To do a CoP event usually takes around 3 hours, If everyone is ready to go right at event time start, has all their items etc. The one thing I hated about helping others on CoP was that 95% of them never did any research on the websites etc and were not prepared with weakness items, pots elixis etc. If I have somebody helping me, I want to make dang sure I have everything i need to maximize my chances of winning and not wasting anyone's time. (Granted this was before the removal of the level capped areas but still applicable even today)

thats what I do, i met and have been helped by a ton of ppl over the years. I even remember the first friend i ever made in ffxi. It was only a week long but he helped me greatly..

Name: Rykon
race: Galka
Job: monk.
server: garuda
He was the first person who took me to giddues in west sarutabaruta. And every now and when i enter giddues out of respect for him i do a salute or kneel before moving on. Just to pay my respects.

I've never liked alot of the endgame content like VW (even though i've only done sandy path) but running around aimlessly is a blast when you find some character hoofing it to the zone with 3 gobbies on them, Just jump off choco and diaga and save the day, they are happy for the help and it gives them a sense of welcome to the game, we're here for you rookie (they're not noobs, they're rookie's)
The problem with getting points for helping is people would be more inclined to buy another account and bot/mule that account to gain benefits on their main character rather then use it the way it was meant.
If you want to help then help, if you don't i guess your a noob in the way of humanity.

Heh, that was a lot of fun to solo as a Red Mage, when the level limit was still in place. :]
Granted, I didn't do it when I needed it the first time as it's obviously not exactly too easy at that level. I can't remember who I did it with, but I do remember I didn't have to ask for the help. I never asked for helped, but for some things I was simply offered it, so I was lucky on that regard. After I got to 75, I didn't really need any help any longer, and was instead able to help a lot of others.

I never met people like “that fight is so benethe me” either, and if I did, I'd likely be gone from the particular Linkshell quite fast. I almost always played with one or few friends, and have been able to busy myself quite a lot with things, but when I do have time, I do help, even if it's a complete stranger. Just the other day I saw someone shout for help with the final limit break quest. Went to get two Rarab Tails, and did it for them (very easy now). The other day someone needed help with the third limit break quest: no problem, I'll run.

I never ask anything in return, except for the player I help needs to be having fun.
Is all!

With something like Chains of Promathia, as it used to be, I can imagine how frustrating it would be to help with it. It was so much more time consuming. Nowadays I can help with that just as well as I can with anything else, and they need not know anything about the mission if they don't want to (I would hope them to enjoy it though, not just /follow me and yay, be done with it). I'll do all the work no problem. It's fun to me in some weird(?) way!

About the 'extra'. It does seem interesting, but I have doubts on them being able to pull it off. They're doing something like that for XIV, aren't they? I don't know anyone from other servers though, so I see little point in it. Still, it is an interesting idea.

As for the Auction House, weren't they looking into increasing the 'slots', but decided not to do that... or something. The servers wouldn't be able to handle the traffic (seriously? =_=), if I remember right! I can't really remember and can't find (don't want to look for) the post right now.

Meh, head-ache!

pretty much i asked when the cap was taken off as i was starting fresh on that server.

pretty much here is the common reply to any and all help requests

"leech to cap and solo it"

i'm serious i got told this ocer 300 times 6mnths ago. i hate the speed levling way its nit fun for me.

honestly i think the speed leveling and leeching is actually killing the game... too many ppl @ cap w/o anjy idea of the game or their job. i've seen any many ppl @ cap who as basic commen sence questions.
I've seen blue mages with out blue magic spells.

to me its like the vets left... and the snot nosed punk noobs took over with their impatience. whoever claims u learn nothing via "old school way" is a lier... i learned so much of this game lvling the old way... u can't learn jack this new way... it goes by to quick.. being @ cap should mean something

lvling in ffxi was never "a means to an end" we do have a TON of low and mid content.i played over 30 mmo.... ffxi is the last decent one. rest are too solo centric.
