Hiya there :) Just joined up on this game, always wanted to give it a good shot , took advantage of the expansion package prices to give it a go. Id love to get in touch with anyone on the Sylph server who would like to group up or just chat , heard this was a pretty party oriented game.
Im working on a warrior right now, little dissapointed that i cant redeem my beret for better leveling, but i figure its not too important so ill start leveling without it anyway.
I plan to branch into more melee oriented jobs in the future too, especially paladin (want that to be my main), if anyone is interested in some long term party goals~. Nice to meet you all (if anyone responds ;P) and hope to play with others soon and often :)

It used to be a lot more party oriented when it came to leveling before, now it's kind of grown into large, impersonal alliances where each member's contribution doesn't really matter that much. If you were expecting it to be party-heavy in the leveling process, I guess you might be disappointed :p.
When you're done leveling, however, you'll be partying a lot more. Usually, you'll have smaller parties to get the bridge-gear that you should be having for the hard stuff, and then the hard stuff will usually be in bigger alliances again.
I'd say hi to you ingame, but my content ID isn't active anymore :p.

Hmm thats kinda dissapointing :x i always liked party oriented stuff because being a tank felt usefull for once xD I came from XIV and i enjoyed that (just waiting for console release because my pc specs are booty).

well, there will be a tank, just not during the leveling process. PLD is not always the right choice for tanking all sorts of content, however. Ninja and monk work in many situations too.
FF11 is currently a very top-heavy game, mostly because of its age. Most players have been at max level for a considerable amount of time, so the mid-game has been kind of dead for a while. Therefore, the leveling speed and ease was increased a lot to just get people to wher ethey can start getting their cool gear.
There is still a reasonable amount of non-leveling stuff you can do as you reach the mid levels, though. It's just that most others are done doing it already, so if you need help with something, you'll usually have to get that help from a high level who will just smack your enemy once and then you win.

Im glad they bumped up exp rates for reaching endgame. Id rather get to the good stuff fast, and then take the time to go back and do all the story related expansions that everyone has probably done by now. Thanks for all the help :)

Hi PianoLegs, welcome to FFXI! My character's name is Leafe and I'm also on Sylph, so feel free to look me up or send me a tell sometime! I'm fairly new to the game as well (been playing for a few weeks now), so I know firsthand what the game's like for new players these days. There's a lot that you can accomplish solo, but things are often easier & more fun with a group of people so don't be afraid to ask if you ever have a question or need help with a quest. Hope to see you around Vana'diel!

Hey piano, yeah unless the person is online you won't be able to send them a friend invite
