View Full Version : Rune Fencer, how it might work.

So, I believe its been discussed that Rune Fencer utilizes various forms of "runes" to amplify their play style. That may variate from tanking , to damage dealing.
My concern is that, similar to Ninja, these "runes" will be both inventory hogs, and possibly expensive to synthesize/locate.
Hopefully this is not the case, because I think Ninja is in a class of its own, and given how long its been in the game, I can bring myself to except the challenge of its affordability. However, I can't bring my self to agree with another job using the same form of system, not to mention it too, is a tank..
So what do you guys think? Would you play Rune Fencer if it does end up using a system similar to the Ninja tools, or would it not bother you?

What I had in mind, perhaps activating Runes could be similar to a scholar using ARTS/Stratagems with the different Runes falling under different Tomes.

No, I'd skip the job entirely if it used consumables. Lack of inventory space is my only big complaint about the game now. I'd shun leveling a job designed to make that problem worse. If the expansion also brings a large inventory space increase, I'd reconsider.

If it can do damage close to my WAR and hold hate well and mitigate damage more than my WAR, I'll play it.

So you'll never play it then. :)
Regarding the Inventory problems; wasn't the big problem with inventory.....(wait for it)....PS2 limitations? Perhaps once the PS2 is dropped like a Cactuar Needle the inventory problem will be relieved. Then again, the "PS2 Limitiations" excuse has be used so much, who knows that the PS2 actually limited.
P.S. I'm not a PC only gamer, nor am I an Xbox fanboy, I don't even own an Xbox. I started out on PS2 and bought a laptop while working out of town to play FFXI on, I never went back. I can use a controller to imitate the PS2 controller, and I no longer have to troll Thrift Stores and Pawn Shops when my controller goes out.

Runefencer is copy/paste job like Red Mage. Probably slapped a cool name to it, different AF and ability. Now what I'm interested in is Geomancer. That's the job everyone has been calling out.

Also, Geomancer strikes me as kinda boring; like a BRD/BLM that can just throw up a buff and go AFK.

If you've played BRD, more than likely you've already played geomancer lol.
I don't mind having a new buff class, I mean we really only had two. I guess if anything, a new buff class, and a new tank class were the two role categorizes that had the least amount of jobs.
I'm just worried about that Fencer being a copy/paste of Ninja with tools. What a drag if it is >.<

I'm hoping it's not, but I'll probably still find a way to play it if it is.
