Im surprised to not yet see a thread about this....

Well, Lets just get to the point.

I wish Square enix would make it so when you casted "Teleport-Dem" (or w/e) You didnt spawn ON the telepoint. Mainly Cause think of all the newbies (or Mules) Runnin around leveling and tring to get the Gate Key. Its complicated because so many people Usasly AFK on the Telepoint itself..

You Could spawn Here:

Or Here:
http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w448/MrSibby/Min120629192500a.jpg

Or Even Here:
http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w448/MrSibby/Min120629192452a.jpg

Anywheres fine. But just not here. I mean..
Look at all these PEOPLE!
http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w448/MrSibby/Min120629192749a.jpg

Its Nearly Impossible to get that fucking Gate key, since people AFK here. x - x

I would show some Spots to spawn in the Jungles/Desert But I dont have those Tele's yet. XD;;

But you could just spawn beside the Chocobo people Like So:

Anywheres Fine.. Just not on the damned Crystal. >_<

Just take it into Consideration SE. Please... ><

Your not understanding where im coming from. What newbie Knows that? Its not like FFXI has a In dept Tutorial when you approach it. Its not like
*Ding Ding*
"You have Reach and OVER Populated Telepoint with People AFKING on it. In order to select the Telepoint, Type in /targetnpc or press F8"
*ding ding*

Yeah FFXI has no form of Tutorial. So no newbie will Know that. Theyll either A: Get mad, or B: Come back later and Pray to Altana that those Fools Moved.

Never saw it as a huge problem personally.

I mean, sure there's sometimes people afk sitting on the crystal. But I've never had it stop me from getting the KI in the many many many times I've done it on me and my mules.

Now getting up the actual steps in the first place. Sometimes that can really annoy me.
Even if it's only for 10 seconds. It's still annoying.
And don't even think about trying to auto-follow your main with your mule up those steps. It ain't happening :(

A lot to be said for RTFM....page 45 of my manual, also on the back of the card insert that has all the shortcut commands....clearly states what F8 does.

If the PDF is not available in the DLC version, they do have the manual online (http://www.playonline.com/ff11/manual/index.html?loc=en) (it's under Playguide at POL site), which tells you about the /targetnpc text command at least (didn't see the Fx keys when skimming it). It's also in countless guides online, possibly even in the new player tutorial videos (http://www.ffxiplayerguide.com/ff11newplayer/index.html?lang=en) linked over at the FFXI site (http://finalfantasyxi.com/na/) (basic controls has a section on targetting). You can also download a PDF of the manualsfrom the support portal (http://support.na.square-enix.com/manual.php?id=20&la=1)as well (hint: it's the big button labeled "Instruction Manual" when you click the support link from POL). It's right there on page 2 of the quick guide (only 2 pages to it).

If you needed to know something about shortcut keys etc then you would at least skim your manual since as people have said, they are in there. I don't always read a manual from cover to cover but it helps to familiarize yourself with basic keyboard commands as soon as possible.

Random character scatter would be nice for teleports etc, but as people have mentioned, its not really needed, just hit F8

While not a huge issue indeed, it can still cause an ache in the head, or even other parts of a being.

Seeing as they are going to change similar mechanics on the Nyzul Isle so that characters are scattered around a bit, perhaps they could do the same with this.

The issue with nyzul is that people spawn on top of each other and can get stuck for a few seconds, and in a time intensive event those seconds add up. SE are taking away collision detection from characters that are stationary for longer than 30seconds I think they said, so AFK people outside of moghouses or at telepoints will be a non-issue in this regard since you could just walk through them.

Again, as I said in my previous post, it would be a welcome change but as a whole is unnecessary.

10 seconds. ^^;

Yes, it is obviously more needed at the Nyzul, but if nothing else, it would at least make more sense to not appear inside another person, or a crystal for that matter! That's precarious ! !! !

There would likely be occasions where characters would still appear on the same spot even if it was random (as may happen on Nyzul as well), but all in all I would think it would be worth the effort, as long as it wouldn't take too many man or woman hours to work on (as many aspects of this game unfortunately do).

I would support this, if only to keep my head from exploding every time from thinking what would happen if you were to really materialize inside another object; especially another living being.

Game over man, game over.

It's really a 10 of 1, but 2 of another issue. It would bother anyone the first time around, but even to begin with, people wouldn't know what those crystals were in the first place, so would most likely try to click them to find out more.

Hitting F8 was worked out within a few hours of logging in all those years ago, and it is mentioned on the keyboard layout page too, inside the box. I do agree though, and mainly for asthetics that it looks odd that people are all stacked inside a crystal. It should instead port you to a point closeby, on the plinth.

Not really game breaking though, just a minor qualm.

TC is right though I was in highlands hunting Tammuz and a newb just happened to be there trying to get crystal and was telling people to move off the crystal who were clearly afk so I understand what she is saying.
