View Full Version : Option to mute menu sounds please.

As a person with tinnitus (ringing in my ears, 24/7), my ears are sensitive. Some sounds are earsplitting to me, and one of them is the "tabbing through targets" sound in this game. I play with sound almost on minimum in FFXI, but it would be nice to be able to hear things like the sounds monsters make, etc. So I would appreciate an option to mute menu/interface sounds only, while retaining game SFX. Menu sounds would be any toggling, selecting, confirming, scrolling, page flipping, canceling sounds, etc.
Rude comments telling me to delete/replace/whatever the DATs are welcome as long as you tell me which is the "tabbing through targets" sound that like daggers enters mine ears.

Well, you can already reduce to 0 all sound effects (separately from music), however I think that includes monster sounds? I'm not sure as I have music and sound effects disabled because I've heard the same tunes for 10 years.

As far as I know, disabling sound effects will mute the monsters too :(

Well, you can already reduce to 0 all sound effects (separately from music), however I think that includes monster sounds? I'm not sure as I have music and sound effects disabled because I've heard the same tunes for 10 years.
Best part about reducing sounds to 0 is when you have a pair of headphones on listening to some music, and someone pulls a <call1> out of their ass in your group.

Or the random "half sounds" you get near someone casting a Teleport spell, when the game temporarily forgets that you reduced ALL sound to 0.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for the suggestion to allow sound volume to be toggled on items such as menu clicks and calls. Development thinks this would be a good addition and will take it into consideration as they progress.

Thanks for submitting the suggestion! I'm excited to turn SFX up to a more audible volume and hear Ifrit's roars, Fenrir's howls, environmental ambience, etc., without having piercing menu sounds disrupt everything.

Thank you, Camate. The ability to reduce call sounds will improve my experience in this game ten-folds. No longer will I suffer heart attacks after I've turned my winamp volume up loud , turned the game music/effects down, for so to hear the a high pitched whistle-sound blast through my ears like a rocket propelled grenade when after the 20 minutes of silence after my playlist ended, someone thought I needed their attention because they are VOKING <T> PLS /ASSIST <CALL>
Of course, there are dat swaps to get around this, but a law-abiding citizen like me would never do something like that.
