View Full Version : Vanafest 2012 Predections
What do you think will get announced at Vanafest?
-New 2 hours - Probably will make their debut here.
-New UI - Highly likely since there have already been posts about them working on the new UI
-New Expansion - Most likely will be announced given the fact that people found a rom9 folder with new zones and PS2's install just went from 10gb to 19gb. All hints point to being a new expansion.
-New level cap - Not out of the realm of possibility since they are updating the UI while doing that they could easily change it to support 3 digits for beyond 99. SE would need to give a reason for people to stop exping in abyssea and visit new areas a new higher level cap with exp values so high that you need to kill new mobs in expansion zones to get could seem reasonable. If the expansion just has some side grade gear you would see people stay in abyssea instead of doing the new stuff.
-New Job / Races - Probably don't think these will happen but you never know.

Agree new 2 hours, new UI, new Expansion might get announced. Highly doubt new races. Could go either way on New Job(s). If they did add new ones I would expect them to be essentially "made ready for end game" meaning the focus would be on levels 49 and 99, and might be along the lines of a "mastery" job like freelancer or onion knight or mime.
I think we'll possibly see a new platform revealed, whether it's PS3, Vita, iOS or even the Mac, I have no idea which would be more likely.
Don't want to get my hopes up too too much, so I'm just looking forward to whatever is revealed/announced :)

In fact, they won't have any gear and will be completely naked, because it's impossible to add gear for them/add them to current items.

going by SE's track of record. WHen they release TaU jobs they didnt even have artifact 1 armours... artifact 2 cam like 3 years after, and except cor which was on wyrmal abj, they didnt have access to endgame gear until TaU endgame cam (Salvage. nyzul, zeniNM, einherjar). I repeat: if they bring new jobs you'll have to wait very long before:
-they get their artifacts 1,2 3.
-they will not have empyrean weapons (TAU and WOTG still dont have relic).
-they wont have gear from current endgame until SE decides so.
It is not because i believe so, it is because thats what SE did with the 2 previous job expansions.
Adding new jobs when currently some jobs are shitty would be a terrible mistake (looking at you: RDM, SCH, THF).

My predictions:
- New Expansion: I think it's fairly obvious by now that there's going to be a new expansion is in the works. They'll choose tonight to announce it.
- Jobs: I don't think that there will be new jobs. Rather, I think we'll see some really neat modifications to present jobs.
- HD refit: I think we'll see a great update to the graphics engine that'll enhance the game. It'll look so different than it did 10 years ago.
- PS3 Support/Release: I think that there will be a PS3 version of FFXI announced. That'll be bigger news than the new expansion.

Announcing an expansion is easy, but what would we have to do in there ? With ToAU we were supposed to be exping. With WotG we were supposed to solo our melee rdm/pup in campaign. With WotG and FF14 we saw that it easier for them to release new zones than actual content. At leats with ToAU we had many thing to exp but now..
Honestly I don't see how this could work without some kind of level cap increase. It could be something like cat 3 merit that could not be abyssea-able or a new type of merit point or point system that you use to upgrade your job, the points being only able while in the new expansion. One can easily imagine such a system with basic point for basic abilities and high end points for better stuff.
There is so much cock block in the gear choice lately that I'm kindof doubtful though.
Level uncap or bust.
Eh not that i want to no police but i'd rather not see any new jobs added, for one thing what role could they take on that isn't already covered by 3++ jobs already, furthermore they can barely "BALANCE" most jobs out there now.
With the induction of VW they have invalidated the last reason they use to refuse buffing THF's DD aspects. They are too scared to touch RDM even if they added half the stuff people are requesting to melee/curing/enhancing/debuffs/nuking (at least the reasonable side) RDM still wouldn't be able to solo NIUR, Legion or VW. When is the last time you thought of pup as anything but a for fun/solo job? Ranger can be fairly hard hitting but is a bit behind haste stacked DD's that can spit out weapon skill after weapon skill, anyways i could probably go off on every job considering there are at least few issues with most of them.

so a new expansion and at least one new job confirmed (geomancer, looks like a buffer job).
Any yall notice on the official home page for the expantion that it does not list ps2 support?
Also about geomancer looks to be a sch/pup/rdm hybrid, does damage, buffs and debuffs, drops totem like things that have HP pools that can be hit by mobs AOE => useless, they will either be too unspecific and fall into RDM category or be too damn awesome to not have as a support role, cant imagine they'd actually let them do well in the DD department to.
Probably am a bit too cynical at this point considering they still havent fixed many major issues yet /sigh hell if they repaired the emity system we might actually allow

The way I'm looking at GEO, it seems like it's completing a trifecta of buff+DD jobs. BRD is buffs+melee, COR is buffs+ranged and GEO is buffs+magic damage. Maybe that's not right, I'm just thinking aloud. Hmm...I guess that kind of sounds like RDM but SE said they wanted to make RDM focus on debuffs.
If that's the case, then they are going to have to be very careful about this enfeeble resistance update to make their vision for RDM a reality.

Well, I think I know how to manually install an expansion, and the data files should be the same between regions, so I will try to come up with a way to port the JP install data to an NA PS2. I already had a manual update without reinstall for when the last Abyssea expansion caused the "insufficient HDD space" error.
I am guessing the 2nd new job is a Templer

Except Geo has aoe buffs and debuffs.
The resistance update their talking about is for their eventual release of Geo not RDM. As far as SE is concerned RDM doesn't exist anymore, they haven't even attempted to fix a single part of that job. Right now RDM is dead, it doesn't exist and has absolutely no role in any part of the game.

RDM does exist but it now called WHM. Before the level cap increase RDM was preferred to whm becuase of it large MP pool. Now that WHM can have 6-7 refresh tics before refresh, as well as convert, they are the new RDM.

Well, maybe they are thinking of making debuffs stack like buffs stack.
