I'm beating the dead horse a bit here, but let me bring you back to the Job Adjustment Manifesto (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/11485) 11 months ago...
Vision
Mystics who conjure avatars to fight by their sides, then sit back and enjoy the show while paying close attention to their MP as their minions deliver devastating blows to adversaries and provide aid to allies
We intend to make it easier for avatars to wreak havoc upon enemies, but also emphasize how vital the act of managing the source of their magical powers is to summoners.
Example Adjustments
A new ability that expends an additional amount of MP to shorten the recast time for blood pacts.
Introducing the avatars Cait Sith and Atomos.
Now, I'm not gonna start ranting on about Cait Sith and Atomos. Cait Sith's on the roadmap, and to be frank I don't care too much for either (new avatars are not going to fix the job). I'm on about the proposed Job Ability.
Now to increase damage dealt via the avatar, Summoner can do the following:
- Use Blood Pact delay gear when activating the Blood Pact to use more Blood Pacts over time
- Use damage gear to maximize damage per Blood Pact
- Use Haste/Crit Rate gear to slightly increase damage via melee.
If you do all of the above and are able to maintain MP, you can still only deliver Spike damage every 45 seconds. Anything worth calling a DD can deliver damage faster then that, hell a BRD probably could, even in endgame situations.
I'm not saying Summoner needs to be put on par with DD jobs, we all know that strictly speaking, it's not a DD job, it's a hybrid. But this Job ability needs to be implimented so it can be used outside procs/perfect defense.
